Careers in science, engineering, and medicine offer opportunities to advance knowledge, contribute to the well-being of communities, and support the security, prosperity, and health of the United States. Modern definitions of science have tended to exclude women's actual contributions, particularly in discussions of the Renaissance, which does not offer a model of enquiry equivalent to modern science.
