Book Description
Including the work of top sports communication researchers, Examining Identity in Sports Media explores identity issues, including gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and (dis)ability, as well as the intersections within these various identity issues. This co-edited, twelve-chapter book investigates how various identity groups are framed, treated, affected, and shaped by a ubiquitous sports media, including television, magazines, film, the Internet, and newspapers. While other books may devote a chapter or section to issues of identity in sports media, this book offers a complete examination of identity from cover to cover, allowing identity variables to be both isolated and intermingled to capture how identity is negotiated within sports media platforms. Far more than a series of case studies, this book surveys the current state of the field while providing insight on future directions for identity scholarship in sports communication. Examining Identity in Sports Media is ideal for undergraduate or graduate-level courses in Sports Communication, Sports Media, Media Criticism, Sports Sociology, Gender Communication, and Identity Politics.

Book Description
This book investigates the contributions of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to policymaking at the WTO, challenging the idea that NGOs can be narrowly understood as potential democratic antidotes to the imperfections of Inter-Governmental Organizations (IGOs). The book highlights the significance of interactions between states, NGOs and IGOs, in order to understand their contributions to international trade governance. Based on case studies in the areas of labour standards, intellectual property and investment rules, the author finds that NGO activities serve an agenda setting function: they publicize neglected traderelated issues, persuade others to support their positions, enhance the resources of less developed member states and highlight normative rationales for policy change. In evaluating NGO campaign tactics and emphasizing relations between NGOs and WTO member states, this book advances understandings of the parameters of NGO agency in global governance. The Making of International Trade Policy will appeal to scholars andstudents with an interest in NGOs, research institutes and thinktanks, as well as policymakers, national trade negotiators, government departments and the trade policy community. NGO personnel active on WTO and trade policy issues - both researchers and activists - will also find this book thought-provoking.

Book Description
Published for the American Educational Research Association by Routledge This landmark volume presents the work of the American Educational Research Association's Panel on Research and Teacher Education. It represents a systematic effort to apply a common set of scholarly lenses to a range of important topics in teacher education. The Panel's charge was twofold: *to create for the larger educational research community a thorough, rigorous, and even-handed analysis of the empirical research evidence relevant to major policies and practices in pre-service teacher education in the U.S., and *to propose a research agenda related to teacher education that builds on what is already known and that identifies the research directions that are most promising for the future. Members of the Panel were appointed from various sectors of the educational research community and with different areas of expertise, including teacher education, policy, assessment, research design and methods, liberal arts, multicultural education, and school reform. Building on their diverse perspectives, they ably translated their charge into a series of questions that became the framework for this volume. The questions illuminate many of the issues that have been most contested in past and current discourse about teacher education reform. Studying Teacher Education examines research about the current pool of prospective and entering teachers and about local, institutional, state, and federal preservice teacher education policies and practices. The book includes three general chapters and nine research syntheses. *The AERA Panel on Research and Teacher Education: Context and Goals *Researching Teacher Education in Changing Times: Politics and Paradigms *Teacher Characteristics: Research on the Demographic Profile *Teacher Characteristics: Research on the Indicators of Quality *Research on the Effects of Coursework in the Arts and Sciences and in the Foundations of Education *Research on Methods Courses and Field Experiences *Research on Pedagogical Approaches in Teacher Education *Research on Preparing Teachers for Diverse Populations *Research on Preparing Teachers to Work with Students with Disabilities *Research on Accountability Processes in Teacher Education *Research on Teacher Education Programs *A Research Agenda for Teacher Education Each chapter reviews the empirical literature and proposes a research agenda that builds on and extends what is known about a topic. A chart at the end of each chapter provides summary information for each of the empirical studies synthesized and two reference lists--one for all of the studies reviewed in the chapter and one for additional references used. The volume includes an introductory chapter on the Panel's context and goals, and an accessible Executive Summary of the book as a whole. Studying Teacher Education: The Report of the AERA Panel on Research and Teacher Education is a timely, indispensable reference for all researchers and professionals in the field.

Book Description
Research on Just in Time (JIT), Total Quality Management (TQM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM),Supply Chain Management (SCM), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) generally investigate the implementation and impact of these programs in isolation. However, none of these paradigms is self sufficient and may not be powerful enough to deliver the improvements and innovations that are required nowadays to insure the survival and growth of a firm. They are not mutually exclusive and inconsistent. On the contrary, they need complementary support and may reinforce mutually to make use of their complementarily, inducement of side effects in favor of other paradigm's, mutual simulation and exploitation of shared values. More researchers have begun to discuss the importance of synergistic approaches by understanding the joint implementation and effect on manufacturing programs.
