Achieving the Paris Climate Agreement Goals
Author: Sven Teske
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030058433
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 535
Book Description
This open access book presents detailed pathways to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2050, globally and across ten geographical regions. Based on state-of-the-art scenario modelling, it provides the vital missing link between renewable energy targets and the measures needed to achieve them. Bringing together the latest research in climate science, renewable energy technology, employment and resource impacts, the book breaks new ground by covering all the elements essential to achieving the ambitious climate mitigation targets set out in the Paris Climate Agreement. For example, sectoral implementation pathways, with special emphasis on differences between developed and developing countries and regional conditions, provide tools to implement the scenarios globally and domestically. Non-energy greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios define a sustainable pathway for land-use change and the agricultural sector. Furthermore, results of the impact of the scenarios on employment and mineral and resource requirements provide vital insight on economic and resource management implications. The book clearly demonstrates that the goals of the Paris Agreement are achievable and feasible with current technology and are beneficial in economic and employment terms. It is essential reading for anyone with responsibility for implementing renewable energy or climate targets internationally or domestically, including climate policy negotiators, policy-makers at all levels of government, businesses with renewable energy commitments, researchers and the renewable energy industry. The Future of Energy
Author: Carla Isabel Fernandes
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781536156089
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This book presents the main conclusions reached by the academic project "Geopolitics of Gas and the Future of the Euro-Russian Relations (Geo4GER)." This project is being developed at IPRI -- Portuguese Institute of International Relations, NOVA University, an academic research institute dedicated to advanced studies in Political Science and International Relations, of NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal. Energy security is a key issue on the international political agenda, a prerequisite for political stability and economic development and an indivisible part of a state's overall security. For Europe, the high-energy insufficiency is a major challenge, given its dependence on external sources, especially from Russia, the lack of diversification of energy sources, and the poor branch of its transmission network. For Russia, energy has been a geopolitical factor of power and a potential strategic vector to its re-emergence as a great power in the international system. However, in terms of energy, Russia also faces some long-term challenges, given the fall of its production and the low competitiveness of its gas, which is currently saved from the market where competition can hardly enter. Given this scenario, and also the increasingly important role in the political and strategic discussion of energy issues between Europe and Russia, it becomes relevant to diagnose the past and the present to forecast the medium and long term future (2030), taking into account the expected changes in the geopolitical and energetic environment, and the characteristics and dynamics of European-Russian relationship, including its energy interdependence and the energy policies and strategies outlined by Europe and Russia.

The European Energy Transition
Author: Jacques Delors
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789077644607
Category : Clean energy
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
La 4ème de couv. indique : "This comprehensive and timely book on the European energy transition has been written by Europe's leading energy experts, and provides guidance for the incoming policy makers at a European level. It refects on the latest policy developments, such as the Clean Energy for All Europeans Package or the outcomes fo the UN Climate Conference COP24. The energy transition is Europe's flagship project. It needs to provide sound answer to the climate and sustainability -, security of supply - and compttitveness imperatives. The energy transition corresponds to a large scale economic and cultural change. It encompasses sector coupling - lingking up sectors that have ignored each other previously, like mobility and power. What is the meaning of digitalization, and how to face cybersecurity risks? What is the response to energy poverty, that 50 million Europeans are victims of? While the geographical scope is Europe at large, divide lines from the past continue to exist, and new ones emerge : what are the borders of the new Energy Europe? The book analyses the factors driving change : where are we on climate and sustainability, competitivenesss and market, and security of supply? It presents the actors : what genesis of and what contemporary institutions for European energy policy, how is energy addressed by the national and by the European ; what about the active customer paradigm and the many startups and business models changing, as well as NGOs? It looks into sectors : power, gas, mobility and the powerful push from digitalization. It proceeds with a reality check, based on facts and figures and reflects on modelling."

The Geopolitics of the Global Energy Transition
Author: Manfred Hafner
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030390667
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 398
Book Description
The world is currently undergoing an historic energy transition, driven by increasingly stringent decarbonisation policies and rapid advances in low-carbon technologies. The large-scale shift to low-carbon energy is disrupting the global energy system, impacting whole economies, and changing the political dynamics within and between countries. This open access book, written by leading energy scholars, examines the economic and geopolitical implications of the global energy transition, from both regional and thematic perspectives. The first part of the book addresses the geopolitical implications in the world’s main energy-producing and energy-consuming regions, while the second presents in-depth case studies on selected issues, ranging from the geopolitics of renewable energy, to the mineral foundations of the global energy transformation, to governance issues in connection with the changing global energy order. Given its scope, the book will appeal to researchers in energy, climate change and international relations, as well as to professionals working in the energy industry.

Renewable Energy Prospects
Author: Dolf Gielen
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789295111189
Category : Energy development
Languages : en
Pages : 96
Book Description
Indonesia is the largest country in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), accounting for around two fifths of the region's energy consumption. Energy demand across the country's more than 17,000 islands could increase by four fifths and electricity demand could triple between 2015 and 2030.While reliance on domestic coal and imported petroleum products has grown, Indonesia has started adding more renewables to its energy mix. The country has set out to achieve 23% renewable energy use by 2025, and 31% by 2050.REmap - the global roadmap from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) - addresses this challenge, presenting a range of technology and resource options, along with key insights on the opportunities and challenges ahead. As this REmap country report shows, Indonesia could feasibly exceed its current goals and deploy even more renewables. In fact, the country could reach its 2050 target two decades sooner - by 2030.
