Book Description
LES SYSTEMES DE COMMUNICATIONS MODERNES TELS QUE LES TELEPHONES RADIO MOBILES ET LES MESSAGERIES ELECTRONIQUES SONT DEVENUS EN QUELQUES ANNEES DES PRODUITS GRAND PUBLIC. LEUR SUCCES EST EN GRANDE PARTIE DU A LEURS FACILITES D'UTILISATIONS ET AUX NOMBREUX SERVICES QU'ILS OFFRENT. AUJOURD'HUI, ON ESSAIE D'INTEGRER LE MAXIMUM DE FONCTIONS D'UN TELEPHONE RADIO MOBILE DANS DES TECHNOLOGIES CMOS, POUR REDUIRE LES COUTS DE FABRICATION DES SYSTEMES ET DIMINUER LA CONSOMMATION DES CIRCUITS. DE NOMBREUX PROGRES ONT ETE REALISES DANS CE SENS, CEPENDANT L'INTEGRATION TOTALE DE LA PARTIE RECEPTION N'A TOUJOURS PAS ETE REALISEE. C'EST DANS CE CONTEXTE QUE S'INSCRIT CE TRAVAIL DE RECHERCHE. NOUS NOUS SOMMES INTERESSES A UNE ARCHITECTURE INNOVANTE DE RECEPTEURS, QUE L'ON NOMME DANS LA LITTERATURE LE SOFTWARE RADIO (RADIO NUMERIQUE). L'IDEE DANS CE TYPE DE RECEPTEUR EST DE REDUIRE LE PLUS POSSIBLE LE NOMBRE DE CIRCUITS ANALOGIQUES NECESSAIRES. THEORIQUEMENT, CE TYPE DE RECEPTEUR PERMETTRAIT D'OBTENIR UNE PLUS GRANDE INTEGRATION ET UNE CONSOMMATION MOINDRE QUE LES ARCHITECTURES CLASSIQUES. LA DIFFICULTE TECHNIQUE A SURMONTER POUR REALISER CE TYPE DE RECEPTEUR, RESIDE DANS LA REALISATION DE L'ECHANTILLONNEUR BLOQUEUR ET DU CONVERTISSEUR ANALOGIQUE NUMERIQUE QUI DOIVENT ETRE TRES PERFORMANTS A LA FOIS EN RAPIDITE ET EN PRECISION. AU COURS DE CET EXPOSE, NOUS DONNERONS LA TOPOLOGIE ET LE FONCTIONNEMENT D'UN SYSTEME DE RECEPTION FONCTIONNANT SUIVANT CETTE APPLICATION. NOUS PROPOSONS AUSSI UNE METHODE DE CONCEPTION POUR L'ECHANTILLONNEUR BLOQUEUR ET LE CONVERTISSEUR ANALOGIQUE NUMERIQUE. DES MESURES RECUEILLIES A PARTIR D'UN ECHANTILLONNEUR BLOQUEUR EXPERIMENTAL SERONT EGALEMENT DONNEES.

Book Description
The book intends to give a state-of-the-art overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. Chapters written by experts in the field shed light on theoretical as well as experimental aspects of research carried out since the discovery of flexoelectricity. Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Electro-optic effects due to or modified by flexoelectricity as well as various (direct and indirect) measurement methods are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities. While the main focus of the book lies in flexoelectricity in nematic liquid crystals, peculiarities of other mesophases (bent-core systems, cholesterics, and smectics) are also reviewed. Flexoelectricity has relevance to biological (living) systems and can also offer possibilities for technical applications. The basics of these two interdisciplinary fields are also summarized.

Book Description
Life outside the mobile phone is unbearable.’ Lily, 19, factory worker. Described as the biggest migration in human history, an estimated 250 million Chinese people have left their villages in recent decades to live and work in urban areas. Xinyuan Wang spent 15 months living among a community of these migrants in a small factory town in southeast China to track their use of social media. It was here she witnessed a second migration taking place: a movement from offline to online. As Wang argues, this is not simply a convenient analogy but represents the convergence of two phenomena as profound and consequential as each other, where the online world now provides a home for the migrant workers who feel otherwise ‘homeless’. Wang’s fascinating study explores the full range of preconceptions commonly held about Chinese people – their relationship with education, with family, with politics, with ‘home’ – and argues why, for this vast population, it is time to reassess what we think we know about contemporary China and the evolving role of social media.

Book Description
This dictionary of grammatical terms covers both current and traditional terminology in syntax and morphology. It includes descriptive terms, the major theoretical concepts of the most influential grammatical frameworks, and the chief terms from mathematical and computational linguistics. It contains over 1500 entries, providing definitions and examples, pronunciations, the earliest sources of terms and suggestions for further reading, and recommendations about competing and conflicting usages. The book focuses on non-theory-boumd descriptive terms, which are likely to remain current for some years. Aimed at students and teachers of linguistics, it allows a reader puzzled by a grammatical term to look it up and locate further reading with ease.
