En un momento en el que la preocupación mundial por la sostenibilidad del planeta está presente ya de forma permanente en todos los foros, es importante reflexionar sobre cuáles son las ideas fundamentales en las que se basarán las actuaciones futuras. En el centro del problema nos encontramos inevitablemente con la energía y el suministro energético. España es un gran importador de energía (o de la materia prima necesaria para producirla). En este sentido se puede decir que nuestro país tiene ciertas características de isla energética, en el sentido de que la mayor parte de dicho suministro viene a través del mar y se descarga en nuestros puertos: carbón, petróleo y gas. Actualmente somos conscientes de que el problema del mar es global. Los diferentes aspectos como catástrofes ecológicas creadas por accidentes de los grandes petroleros, gaseoductos y barcos que transportan gas y carbón; así como las necesidades de los puertos de descarga, parques eólicos que se podrían instalar en el mar, y en general el análisis de la problemática energética, tienen su valoración en esta publicación que recoge las ponencias de la Jornada sobre «Energía y sostenibilidad. Incidencia en el medio marino».
