The experiment was subject to transient power fluctuations flat were traced to the electron beam source rather than to flow instability. A model has been formulated on the basis of quasi one-dimensional, steady flow in a Laval nozzle with a collimated laser beam propagating in the downstream direction. Stagnation conditions on the order of 10,000K at 1,000 atm. are possible with 10% head losses. Heat transfer rate at the throat (50 kWatts/square centimeter) is the major limiting factor to successful operation. (Author).
