Book Description
A number of investigations have been conducted with horizontal cylinders in free convection to determine the effect of vibratio on he heat tr nsfer r te. This s udy was co tinuatio using high r vibration inte sities (PRODUCT OF A PLITUD AND FREQUENCY). A attempt was made to correlat the change in he heat transfer rate with that of forced co vection. The inv stigation was conduct d with three different size cylinders vibrated transversly in air T e diameters of the cylinders were 3/4 1/4, and 0.085 inches. The investigation wa con uc ed over a frequency range of 0 to 130 cps, an an a plitu ra ge of o 0.165 inc es. The urface temperature of the cylinders was varied over a range of 125 to 167 F. Results showed that the effect of vibration on the eat transfer rate for particular cylinder is a function only of the vibr tion i ten i y, an tha the he tr sfer r e is increa ed over 300% at high vibration intensities. From an interferometer tudy, the boundary layer is quite complex and goes throug several transitio a the vibration i t n i y is incre sed T HE BOUN ARY LAYER DOES APPEAR SIMILAR TO THAT OF FORCED CONVECTION A VIBRATION INTENSITIES IN EXCESS OF!
