A range of factors--including a litigious culture, overzealous safety guidelines, and an ethos of risk aversion--have created uniform and unimaginative playgrounds. The following discussion is not based on any theological doctrines, or inspired much by theological literature. In fact, we do not know whether the subject has been treated from the standpoint of the present treatise. What we will endeavor to say, therefore, will be independent of the opinion of other writers. It is based rather on pondering over personal religious experience and direct communication with the plain teachings of the Scriptures while studying the subject of character development.
