Book Description
The COVID-19 pandemic is not only a threat to human lives but also to their livelihoods. Half of the world's population are under lockdown. Hundreds of companies in the sectors like aviation, travel-tourism & hospitalities are facing huge setbacks. Millions of jobs are getting slashed every week. The lower income group, with limited resources to fall back on in a disastrous situation like this, are the worst hit. The daily wage earners, the gig economy workers & the migrant workers are on the verge of falling back to poverty. India as an emerging economy have been trying hard over the past few decades to uplift the lives of hundreds of millions of underprivileged citizens. The slower the economic growth the tougher it gets to bring people out of poverty, which have been anyway de-accelerating for last couple of years due to various reasons. This pandemic has brought all economic activities in the country to a complete halt, and thus is pooling the economy down towards an unprecedented scenario of economic contraction. Coupled with striking natural calamities in the different parts of the country, the present days have become very challenging for the lives & livelihoods of the citizens, as much as a third of them in one way or the other. Welfare of the underprivileged may not be a charity as it has been always portrayed, rather supporting the livelihoods of these large sections of the economy & society is the key to faster economic recovery & returning back to sustainable growth.

Book Description
The paper outlines the strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. economic growth model, assesses its' ability to respond to the key economic, environmental and social challenges currently facing the U.S. and proposes policies that if adopted would move the U.S. onto a more sustainable growth path. The paper provides scenarios of projected future growth trajectories, as well as recommendations for specific policies in key areas: employment, infrastructure, energy and fiscal rebalancing. To reach this goal this paper focuses on four areas for action: Increasing employment, which is the most urgent priority to accelerate recovery from the Great Recession, while addressing underlying structural issues that have led to a decade of poor economic outcomes for most citizens; Investing in the future, as the key marker of whether the United States is prepared to make farsighted decisions to improve education, build new infrastructure and increase innovation; Maximizing an increased energy endowment in a way that grows the economy, while reinforcing the trend towards reducing resource demand and reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and, Fiscal rebalancing, where the United States must insulate economic recovery from the process of fiscal reform while reducing and stabilizing debt over the long term. Finally, we argue that President Obama can re-energize America's global leadership if he builds on a platform of domestic actions that enhance the sustainability of America's society and economy.

Book Description
The recession that began in late 2007 was long and deep. It is likely to prove to be the worst economic contraction since the 1930s (but still much less severe than the Great Depression). The slowdown of economic activity was moderate through the first half of 2008, but at that point the weakening economy was overtaken by a major financial crisis that would exacerbate the economic weakness and accelerate the decline. Recent evidence suggests that the process of economic recovery has begun. Real gross domestic product (GDP) has been on a positive track since mid-2009. The stock market has recovered from its lows, and employment has increased moderately. On the other hand, significant economic weakness remains evident, particularly in the labor and housing markets. In the typical post-war business cycle, lower than normal growth during the recession is quickly followed by a recovery period with above normal growth. This above normal growth serves to speed up the reentry of the unemployed to the workforce. Once the economy reaches potential output (and full employment), growth returns to its normal growth path where the pace of aggregate spending advances in step with the pace of aggregate supply.

Book Description
The UNDP Crisis Prevention and Recovery Report 2008 titled Post-Conflict Economic Recovery: Enabling Local Ingenuity, is a comprehensive analysis focusing on three critical factors: the importance of local ingenuity to guide recovery, the state s role in promoting this ingenuity, and the policies needed to rebuild battered economies and reduce the risk of conflict recurrence. The study cites examples of countries that have succeeded in rekindling post-conflict economies and those that continue to flounder, discussing the foundations that are so vital to foster post-conflict economic recovery.
