East Coast Repetitive Seafloor Mapping, 1979
Author: Environmental Studies Research Funds (Canada)
Publisher: [St. John's, Nfld.] : Environmental Studies Research Funds
ISBN: 9780921652304
Category : Icebergs
Languages : en
Pages : 51
Book Description
In early December 1979, sidescan sonar surveys were conducted on the north-eastern Grand Banks, consisting of ten survey lines about 70 kilometres in length and spaced two kilometres apart. The purpose of the survey was to document the character and distribution of iceberg scours in the Hibernia offshore development area as a basis for improved understanding of the scouring process and better information concerning the severity of scouring and potential impacts on future oil-related seabed installations. This report presents a study conducted to resurvey those ten survey lines using identical equipment and operating parameters, and to analyze the data for the purposes of identifying new scour events and/or documenting observable changes to previously mapped features. The new survey was conducted August through September 1990. Results of the two surveys are compared, and key criteria are highlighted which must be satisfied when attempting to use acoustic remote sensing methods for detecting seabed changes.

The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate
Author: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9781009157971
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 755
Book Description
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for assessing the science related to climate change. It provides policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis of human-induced climate change, its impacts and future risks, and options for adaptation and mitigation. This IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate is the most comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the observed and projected changes to the ocean and cryosphere and their associated impacts and risks, with a focus on resilience, risk management response options, and adaptation measures, considering both their potential and limitations. It brings together knowledge on physical and biogeochemical changes, the interplay with ecosystem changes, and the implications for human communities. It serves policymakers, decision makers, stakeholders, and all interested parties with unbiased, up-to-date, policy-relevant information. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.
