Book Description
This book is a result of the author's work which was initiated about a decade ago and which, in the meantime, has resulted in his Ph.D. Thesis and several technical papers. The book deals with accurate modeling of electric machines during transient and steady states, a topic which has been usually avoided in the literature. The modeling techniques herein take into account all machine peculiarities, such as the type and connection of its windings, slotting, and saturation in the iron core. A special emphasis in the book is given to the exact physical interpretation of all phenomena which influence the machine's transient behavior. Besides the Introduction, the book has five chapters. The second chapter describes basic concepts of the magnetic equivalent circuit theory and has examples of magnetic equivalent circuits of several types of machines with their node potential equations. In the third chapter the transform matrices w' and w" of A.C. wind ings are derived. These matrices playa very important role in the magnetic equivalent circuit theory because they connect the quantities from the ma chine's magnetic equivalent circuit, branch fluxes, and mmfs with the ma chine's phase currents and fluxes.

Book Description
Electric energy is arguably a key agent for our material prosperity. With the notable exception of photovoltaic generators, electric generators are exclusively used to produce electric energy from mechanical energy. More than 60% of all electric energy is used in electric motors for useful mechanical work in various industries. This book presents the modeling, performance, design, and control of reluctance synchronous and flux-modulation machines developed for higher efficiency and lower cost. It covers one- and three-phase reluctance synchronous motors in line-start applications and various reluctance flux-modulation motors in pulse width modulation converter-fed variable speed drives. FEATURES Presents basic and up-to-date knowledge about the topologies, modeling, performance, design, and control of reluctance synchronous machines. Includes information on recently introduced reluctance flux-modulation electric machines (switched- flux, flux-reversal, Vernier, transverse flux, claw pole, magnetic-geared dual-rotor, brushless doubly fed, etc.). Features numerous examples and case studies throughout. Provides a comprehensive overview of all reluctance electric machines.

Book Description
The ever-increasing need for higher efficiency, smaller size, and lower cost make the analysis, understanding, and design of energy conversion systems extremely important, interesting, and even imperative. One of the most neglected features in the study of such systems is the effect of the inherent nonlinearities on the stability of the system. Due to these nonlinearities, these devices may exhibit undesirable and complex dynamics, which are the focus of many researchers. Even though a lot of research has taken place in this area during the last 20 years, it is still an active research topic for mainstream power engineers. This research has demonstrated that these systems can become unstable with a direct result in increased losses, extra subharmonics, and even uncontrollability/unobservability. The detailed study of these systems can help in the design of smaller, lighter, and less expensive converters that are particularly important in emerging areas of research like electric vehicles, smart grids, renewable energy sources, and others. The aim of this Special Issue is to cover control and nonlinear aspects of instabilities in different energy conversion systems: theoretical, analysis modelling, and practical solutions for such emerging applications. In this Special Issue, we present novel research works in different areas of the control and nonlinear dynamics of energy conversion systems.
