Book Description
This book describes a novel digital calibration technique called dynamic-mismatch mapping (DMM) to improve the performance of digital to analog converters (DACs). Compared to other techniques, the DMM technique has the advantage of calibrating all mismatch errors without any noise penalty, which is particularly useful in order to meet the demand for high performance DACs in rapidly developing applications, such as multimedia and communication systems.

Book Description
This book offers students and those new to the topic of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) a broad introduction, before going into details of the state-of-the-art design techniques for SAR and DS converters, including the latest research topics, which are valuable for IC design engineers as well as users of ADCs in applications. The book then addresses important topics, such as correct connectivity of ADCs in an application, the verification, characterization and testing of ADCs that ensure high-quality end products. Analog-to-digital converters are the central element in any data processing system and regulation loops such as modems or electrical motor drives. They significantly affect the performance and resolution of a system or end product. System development engineers need to be familiar with the performance parameters of the converters and understand the advantages and disadvantages of the various architectures. Integrated circuit development engineers have to overcome the problem of achieving high performance and resolution with the lowest possible power dissipation, while the digital circuitry generates distortion in supply, ground and substrate. This book explains the connections and gives suggestions for obtaining the highest possible resolution. Novel trends are illustrated in the design of analog-to-digital converters based on successive approximation and the difficulties in the development of continuous-time delta-sigma modulators are also discussed.

Book Description
This book addresses the challenges of designing high performance analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) based on the “smart data converters” concept, which implies context awareness, on-chip intelligence and adaptation. Readers will learn to exploit various information either a-priori or a-posteriori (obtained from devices, signals, applications or the ambient situations, etc.) for circuit and architecture optimization during the design phase or adaptation during operation, to enhance data converters performance, flexibility, robustness and power-efficiency. The authors focus on exploiting the a-priori knowledge of the system/application to develop enhancement techniques for ADCs, with particular emphasis on improving the power efficiency of high-speed and high-resolution ADCs for broadband multi-carrier systems.

Book Description
This book describes techniques for realizing wide bandwidth (125MHz) over-sampled analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) in nano meter-CMOS processes. The authors offer a clear and complete picture of system level challenges and practical design solutions in high-speed Delta-Sigma modulators. Readers will be enabled to implement ADCs as continuous-time delta-sigma (CT∆Σ) modulators, offering simple resistive inputs, which do not require the use of power-hungry input buffers, as well as offering inherent anti-aliasing, which simplifies system integration. The authors focus on the design of high speed and wide-bandwidth ΔΣMs that make a step in bandwidth range which was previously only possible with Nyquist converters. More specifically, this book describes the stability, power efficiency and linearity limits of ΔΣMs, aiming at a GHz sampling frequency.

Book Description
The Fuzzy Systems and Data Mining (FSDM) conference is an annual event encompassing four main themes: fuzzy theory, algorithms and systems, which includes topics like stability, foundations and control; fuzzy application, which covers different kinds of processing as well as hardware and architectures for big data and time series and has wide applicability; the interdisciplinary field of fuzzy logic and data mining, encompassing applications in electrical, industrial, chemical and engineering fields as well as management and environmental issues; and data mining, outlining new approaches to big data, massive data, scalable, parallel and distributed algorithms. The annual conference provides a platform for knowledge exchange between international experts, researchers, academics and delegates from industry. This book includes the papers accepted and presented at the 5th International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Data Mining (FSDM 2019), held in Kitakyushu, Japan on 18-21 October 2019. This year, FSDM received 442 submissions. All papers were carefully reviewed by program committee members, taking account of the quality, novelty, soundness, breadth and depth of the research topics falling within the scope of FSDM. The committee finally decided to accept 137 papers, which represents an acceptance rate of about 30%. The papers presented here are arranged in two sections: Fuzzy Sets and Data Mining, and Communications and Networks. Providing an overview of the most recent scientific and technological advances in the fields of fuzzy systems and data mining, the book will be of interest to all those working in these fields.

Book Description
Inadvertent but inevitable mismatches among nominally identical unit element 1-bit DACs within a multi-bit Nyquist-rate DAC cause both static and dynamic error in the DAC’s continuous-time output waveform. Prior calibration techniques are able to suppress static mismatch error, but they have had limited success in suppressing dynamic mismatch error. This first chapter of the dissertation presents a mismatch noise cancellation (MNC) technique that adaptively measures and cancels both static and dynamic mismatch error over the DAC’s first Nyquist band. The proposed digital calibration technique is capable of either foreground or background operation and is relatively insensitive to non-ideal circuit behavior. The chapter presents a rigorous mean convergence analysis of the technique and demonstrates the results of the paper with both behavioral and transistor-level circuit simulations. The second chapter of the dissertation presents an integrated circuit DAC which implements the MNC technique of chapter one together with other circuit-level improvement techniques. With MNC enabled, this DAC demonstrates state-of-the-art performance. This third chapter of the dissertation presents an improved version of MNC that addresses a practical concern. The original MNC technique requires an oversampling ADC clocked at a much higher clock rate than that of the DAC to measure the DAC’s mismatch error, while the new technique presented in this chapter overcomes this limitation. This fourth chapter of the dissertation presents a comprehensive mean-square convergence analysis of MNC proposed in chapter one, it proved that the noise impact on each coefficient in MNC, characterized by a steady-state mean square error metric, is bounded and can be arbitrarily reduced under certain practical conditions. It also established an analytical lower bound of DAC signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) contributed by noise present in the system during calibration. The results of this paper provide guidance into the design of MNC.

Book Description
Digitally Assisted Pipeline ADCs: Theory and Implementation explores the opportunity to reduce ADC power dissipation by leveraging digital signal processing capabilities in fine line integrated circuit technology. The described digitally assisted pipelined ADC uses a statistics-based system identification technique as an enabling element to replace precision residue amplifiers with simple open-loop gain stages. The digital compensation of analog circuit distortion eliminates one key factor in the classical noise-speed-linearity constraint loop and thereby enables a significant power reduction. Digitally Assisted Pipeline ADCs: Theory and Implementation describes in detail the implementation and measurement results of a 12-bit, 75-MSample/sec proof-of-concept prototype. The Experimental converter achieves power savings greater than 60% over conventional implementations. Digitally Assisted Pipeline ADCs: Theory and Implementation will be of interest to researchers and professionals interested in advances of state-of-the-art in A/D conversion techniques.
