Book Description
The purpose of this report is to survey the current status of field sampling and on-site analytical methods for detecting and quantifying secondary explosives compounds in soils (Table 1). The paper also includes a brief discussion of EPA Method 8330 (EPA 1995), the reference analytical method for the determination of 14 explosives and co-contaminants in soil. This report is divided into the following major sections: introduction; background; an overview of sampling and analysis for explosives in soil; data quality objectives; unique sampling design considerations for explosives; procedures for statistically comparing on-site and reference analytical methods; a summary of on-site analytical methods; and a summary of the current EPA reference analytical method, Method 8330 (EPA 1995). Although some sections may be used independently, joint use of the field sampling and on-site analytical methods sections is recommended to develop a sampling and analytical approach that achieves project objectives.

Book Description
This report reviews the available information on the use, environmental fate, and toxicity of spent lead shot and lost lead fishing weights. The report begins with a summary of information on the production, import, and use of lead shot and fishing sinkers in Canada. It then discusses the fate of these products in the environment, including chemical transformation of metallic lead in the environment, lead concentrations in soils and biota, and factors affecting the environmental mobility of lead compounds. The next section assesses the toxicity of lead shot and sinkers to waterfowl and non-waterfowl species, effects of lead shot ingestion in cattle, and human health concerns about hunting with lead shot. The report ends with a discussion of options for managing the negative impacts of those products, including using alternatives to lead, restricting use of lead shot, and alternative fishing sinker products.

Book Description
Most reported incidents of soil contamination include an array of heavy metals species rather than a single ion. The various interactions in these multicomponent or multiple-ion systems significantly impact the fate and transport of heavy metals, and competition for sorption sites on soil matrix surfaces is a common phenomenon. Because of this, con

Book Description
Managing sites contaminated with munitions constituents is an international challenge. Although the choice of approach and the use of Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) tools may vary from country to country, the assurance of quality and the direction of ecotoxicological research are universally recognized as shared concerns. Drawing on a multidiscip
