En implantologie, la douleur est la conséquence de suites opératoires normales ou d'une complication telle que la lésion d'une dent adjacente, la lésion d'un nerf, une nécrose tissulaire, un échauffement osseux... La prévention de ces complications est essentielle. Cette douleur est influencée par de nombreux facteurs liés au patient et à l'intervention. Ainsi, chaque patient aura une expérience douloureuse qui lui est propre. Dans notre étude, menée entre octobre 2011 et juin 2012, sur 49 patients recevant des implants sous anesthésie locale au CHU de Nantes et sous anesthésie générale au CHU de Tours, il est apparu que cette douleur est généralement faible (EVA moyenne= 2,36) et qu'elle est liée notamment à l'anxiété du patient ainsi qu'à la douleur per-opératoire. De plus, il n'y a pas de différence, concernant la douleur post-opératoire, entre les interventions sous anesthésie locale et celles sous anesthésie générale.

La douleur en chirurgie implantaire est une conséquence nécessaire de la pose d'un ou plusieurs implants, influencée par de nombreux facteurs. Cette étude rétrospective, qui consistait en l'étude de scores douloureux recueillis après une chirurgie implantaire de 2008 à 2017 avait pour objectif d'identifier ces facteurs et d'en mesurer l'importance. L'étude a porté sur 942 patients et a permis de montrer que la douleur moyenne ressentie après une pose d'implant est légère (avec une EVA moyenne de 1,57) et qu'elle est influencée significativement par le sexe du patient, le nombre d'implants posés, le recours à une greffe sinusienne dans le même temps opératoire et la réclinaison d'un lambeau. L'âge, la provenance du patient (adressé ou non), la position des implants et le protocole d'extraction implantation immédiate ne semblent pas influencer la douleur post-opératoire de façon significative.
