In an age of digital technologies, this work emphasizes the intimate relationship that exists between the drawing and its maker, the process between paper, hand, and mind." LaRaine Papa Montgomery, Professor of Architecture/Graphics Coordinator, Savannah College of Art and Design "This book contains a wealth of information on architectural graphic communication. My students have found this to be an invaluable resource for graphic presentation techniques ranging from traditional hand drawing to advanced computer graphics. It features an amazingly wide range of examples including both student work and professional work by renowned architects. With the addition of a new chapter on portfolio design, this new edition illustrates the full gamut of graphic communication skills from the conceptual sketch through the documentation of the final portfolio." Mark A. Pearson, AIA, LEED AP, Associate Professor of Architecture, College of DuPage "This book should be in the library of all architecture and design students as well as practicing professionals. The richness and variety of hand-drawn and digital illustrations by students and architects offers deep insight into the many drawing types and methods used today. The section on portfolios is a helpful and timely addition." Professor Michael Hagge, Chair, Department of Architecture, The University of Memphis

Book Description
Brain Landscape: The Coexistence of Neuroscience and Architecture is the first book to serve as an intellectual bridge between architectural practice and neuroscience research. John P. Eberhard, founding President of the non-profit Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture, argues that increased funding, and the ability to think beyond the norm, will lead to a better understanding of how scientific research can change how we design, illuminate, and build spaces. Inversely, he posits that by better understanding the effects that buildings and places have on us, and our mental state, the better we may be able to understand how the human brain works. This book is devoted to describing architectural design criteria for schools, offices, laboratories, memorials, churches, and facilities for the aging, and then posing hypotheses about human experiences in such settings.

Book Description
Educational policies and trends are continually changing, and consequently design briefs for school buildings are also in a constant state of flux. School Builders introduces 29 school projects from across the globe, each of which bears testimony to the many changes affecting school buildings. Through these projects, the book also presents a number of pressing and sensitive issues relevant to architects, school governors and anyone else involved in school design. Representing the work of an international range of architects, the featured buildings cover a wide range of briefs: from the technology-led classroom to the sustainable 'green' school; from the tight urban site to wide expansive fields; from the small to the large; from children's involvement to the community's involvement; from state to private; and from safety and security to freedom and horizons. Within this range of issues, new technologies emerge as the main driving force behind the most rapid changes in school design. Technology has allowed schools and learning to change, in terms of both the physical space and the type of activity taking place within it. School buildings must therefore offer more and more flexibility in their design: they need to be able to accommodate potential changes concerning technology, demographics, sustainability policies, urban regeneration, safety and security, and all within (mostly) public budgets - and on top of this, to do so using creative design solutions. The buildings featured here will offer inspiration to anyone seeking to tackle these complex issues of school architecture.
