Book Description
Research has empirically demonstrated that intimacy is a crucial element when it comes to marriage and its success. And when we talk about the success of a marriage, we talk about marital satisfaction. However, few studies have examined how these two independent constructs are related to one another in terms of which type of intimacy predicts the highest level of marital satisfaction in Lebanese couples. The present study investigated the relationship between intimacy and marital satisfaction. Specifically, we examined whether emotional and sexual intimacy are the highest predictors of marital satisfaction compared to social, recreational, and intellectual intimacy, and how the length of marriage moderates this relationship between IV and DV. Participants were Lebanese married individuals who completed a demographic information sheet, the Personal Assessment of Intimacy in Relationships, and the Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale. Data was analyzed through the use of multiple regression a ...

Book Description
The present study investigated the relationship between intimacy and marital satisfaction, as well as between intimacy and sexuality. Participants were 30 couples, with a mean age of 49. Participants had been involved in a romantic relationship for an average of 20 years. Couples were asked to complete a variety of questionnaires on intimacy, marital, and sexual functioning. Results indicated no sex differences in levels of overall intimacy, or in levels of sexual satisfaction, however the men were experiencing more sexual problems than the women. For men, sexual and emotional intimacy predicted marital satisfaction, whereas for women, recreational and emotional intimacy were the significant predictors. High discrepancies between perceived and desired levels of intimacy were not related to lower marital satisfaction. Few dimensions of intimacy were related to sexual satisfaction and functioning. The finding that different types of intimacy are important to marital satisfaction for men and women has implications for the areas of focus in marital therapy. The finding that large discrepancies between perceived and desired intimacy levels did not decrease marital satisfaction suggests that individuals find ways to compensate for a lack of intimacy in their relationship. Other implications of the present findings, as well as how they relate to past research and theory, are discussed.

Book Description
Current literature suggests that a connection exists between intimacy and marital satisfaction; however, much of the research has only focused on non-Christian marriages and sexual intimacy. There is little research that proves how the various types of intimacy and marital satisfaction are related within Christian couples. This quantitative study examined the predictive relationship between intimacy and marital satisfaction in Christian adults. The research focused on the following main research question: (1) Do the six sub-scales of marital intimacy (emotional intimacy, social intimacy, physical intimacy, intellectual intimacy, recreational intimacy, and spiritual intimacy) collectively predict marital satisfaction in Christian couples? It was hypothesized that (1) The six sub-scales of marital intimacy (emotional intimacy, social intimacy, physical intimacy, intellectual intimacy, recreational intimacy, and spiritual intimacy) collectively predict marital satisfaction in Christian couples. Results of this study showed that the six sub-scales of intimacy collectively predicted marital satisfaction. Additionally, results showed that one of the sub-scales, emotional intimacy, individually predicted marital satisfaction.

Book Description
Although many studies have sought to investigate predictors of marital satisfaction, a majority of these studies have been done in the Western context (Alder, 2010; Marks, 2005; Rois, 2010). Therefore, the aim of the current study was to evaluate whether certain premarital and concurrent variables act as predictors of marital satisfaction in Lebanon. The predictor variables to be studied are: courtship length, communication patterns (the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse theory) and, religiosity. The study was a quantitative survey design using a purposeful convenient sample consisting of 318 participants in heterosexual marriages lasting for more than one year and under 10 years. The questionnaire administered consisted of a demographic section, consent form, modified 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse questionnaire, Revised Intrinsic/Extrinsic Religious Orientation Scale (ROS) and the Quality Marital Index. It was hypothesized that religiosity and courtship length are positively correlated with ...

Book Description
"This study assesses the relationships between sexual satisfaction, the perception of partner responsiveness, and marital satisfaction. These variables will also be explored in terms of the frequency of behaviors leading to satisfaction, to see if the amount of interactions plays a role in individuals' perceptions. These variables will be further studied in terms of gender differences to see if sexual satisfaction and the perception of partner responsiveness vary in importance to husbands and wives."--leaf 9.

Book Description
Based on two studies of marital quality in America twenty years apart, Alone Together shows that while the divorce rate has leveled off, spouses are spending less time together. The authors argue that marriage is an adaptable institution, and in accommodating the changes that have occurred in society, it has become a less cohesive, yet less confining arrangement.
