Book Description
Cytopathology of Infectious Diseases is the first book of its kind to focus entirely on the cytopathology of infectious diseases. It contains all of the pertinent information about the cytology of infectious diseases and microorganisms and will serve as an ideal handy reference. This unique volume covers the cytomorphology of various microorganisms and the host reactions they elicit, and also incorporates an update on advances in the field. Newly recognized infections such as the recent discovery of the Merkel Cell Polyomavirus (MCV) are included, as well as the utility of new immunostains (e.g. CM2B4 for MCV) and the role of molecular techniques that assist in the identification, classification and even quantification of microorganisms. Each chapter is succinctly written and concisely referenced with key published articles and resources. The volume includes practical pointers, useful diagnostic criteria, differential diagnoses and potential pitfalls. Many color images of high resolution that illustrate microorganisms (e.g. branching hyphae) and host reactions (e.g. viral cytopathic effect) are included throughout. Relevant tables with diagrams that provide quick reference guides are incorporated. Cytopathology of Infectious Diseases will serve as a valuable reference tool for cytopathologists, anatomical/clinical pathologists, cytotechnologists, pathology residents and cytopathology fellows.

Book Description
The first edition of this book was written prior to 1991 and it seemed appropriate to revise and update the text in view of the rapid expansion in information which has occurred in the last decade. Furthermore, in the first edition, the reproduction of some of the illustrations was not of sufficient standard to be of value to the reader. Accordingly some of the inadequate figures have been replaced by colour figures which have been inserted into the text. Colour has also been included because many histopathological illustrations, e. g. special stains such as Gram, PAS, trichrome stains etc. , and immunohistochemical reactions, are much better appreciated. With regard to references, I have taken advantage of the currently available access to all the medical literat ure, which is what I anticipate will be the course of action of the reader. Glasgow, 2001 Acknowledgements It is a pleasure to re cord the support I have received in the last decade from Professors Wallace Foulds, Colin Kirkness and Gordon Dutton and from Mr Bertil Damato in their continuing efforts to educate me in the subtleties of clinical ophthalmology. I am particularly indebted to Dr Sarah Coupland who provided the information on lymphoid neoplasia which is included in this book and I must thank Dr Weng Sehu who established the computer equipment which has been so valuable in the preparation of the new illustrations.

Book Description
Ocular surface diseases in children have not always been well understood and the literature in this age group is limited. The consequences of misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis include visually significant scarring and amblyopia, thus with real impact on their quality of life and ultimate visual potential. Recently, there has been an increase in clinical and research focus on these diseases, contributing to a growing awareness of their importance to pediatric visual health. This book is the first comprehensive volume dedicated to pediatric ocular surface diseases. It provides an up-to-date and highly illustrated discussion of the pathophysiology, symptomatology and diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of these less commonly understood diseases, in a format that is readily absorbed by trainees and seasoned physicians alike. The aim of this book is to provide a practical and detailed understanding of ocular surface disease in the pediatric population, as many of these corneal conditions in children require unique therapeutic approaches and may have subtle presentations. Chapters will address key issues, such as dry eye disease, Steven Johnson Syndrome and neurotrophic keratitis, that can have a profound impact on children’s visual and social development. Pediatric Ocular Surface Disease is a must-have resource for pediatric ophthalmology fellows, cornea fellows, pediatric ophthalmologists, and cornea specialists.
