Book Description
It this book, I challenge the humanistic assumptions concerning psychological disorders. My underlying assumptions remain the same throughout. Satan is, in fact, in the business of trying to prevent the human race from growing up. It is a revolt against maturity. The reason for his revolt was because he knew that the angelic host were created and destined to help elevate human beings beyond the merely material and human, beyond even the status of angels. He knew that the angels were to be servants and instruments of that help to an unmerited glory for the human race, helping them grow right to the status of sharing God's life. This is why, when we look at the life of Jesus, we see the truly mature man overcoming every obstacle given. When Jesus defeats the strong man, what does He do? He comes upon one who is fully armed, He overcomes or conquers him, and then He strips his armor. This is, in part, why he is our model to follow. And not only is He our model, we see Jesus crowned with glory and honor. Jesus' coronation 'with glory and honor' involves exaltation over the angels, so that He is no longer "lower than the angels." Furthermore, "the world to come" has not been made subject to angels but to Jesus and to man united with Him. The 'lower than angels' stage was temporary and short-lived as God intended. Afterward comes mans exaltation. Man is the one to be glorified and, at the end, God being victorious, the righteous is indeed able to ascend to join God in glory through Jesus. This was His intentions for the human race, even after the fall of mankind. He accomplished this through the cross that Jesus died on. There, he stripped Satan of his power over death and took the keys of death from him. And now that He has ascended as King and given His Spirit, the outcome is settled. "Know ye not that we shall judge angels?"

Book Description
The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781472453983, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivative 4.0 license. Experiences of hearing the voice of God (or angels, demons, or other spiritual beings) have generally been understood either as religious experiences or else as a feature of mental illness. Some critics of traditional religious faith have dismissed the visions and voices attributed to biblical characters and saints as evidence of mental disorder. However, it is now known that many ordinary people, with no other evidence of mental disorder, also hear voices and that these voices not infrequently include spiritual or religious content. Psychological and interdisciplinary research has shed a revealing light on these experiences in recent years, so that we now know much more about the phenomenon of "hearing voices" than ever before. The present work considers biblical, historical, and scientific accounts of spiritual and mystical experiences of voice hearing in the Christian tradition in order to explore how some voices may be understood theologically as revelatory. It is proposed that in the incarnation, Christian faith finds both an understanding of what it is to be fully human (a theological anthropology), and God’s perfect self-disclosure (revelation). Within such an understanding, revelatory voices represent a key point of interpersonal encounter between human beings and God.

The editors – leaders in their field – have drawn together more than fifty noted experts from around the world, to canvas the relevant literature from historical, conceptual, empirical and clinical perspectives. The result documents the impressive gains made over the past ten years in understanding multiple aspects of the interface between trauma, dissociation and psychosis. The historical/conceptual section clarifies the meaning of the terms dissociation, trauma and psychosis, proposes dissociation as central to the historical concepts of schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder, and considers unique development perspectives on delusions and the onset of schizophrenia. The empirical section of the text compares and contrasts psychotic and dissociative disorders from a wide range of perspectives, including phenomenology, childhood trauma, and memory and cognitive disturbances, whilst the clinical section focuses on the assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment of these disorders, along with proposals for new and novel hybrid disorders. This important resource: • Offers extensive updated coverage of the field, from all relevant perspectives • Brings together in one text contributions from scholars and clinicians working in diverse geographical and theoretical areas • Helps define and bring cohesion to this new and important field • Features nine new chapters on: conceptions of trauma, dissociation and psychosis, PTSD with psychotic features, delusions and memory, trauma treatment of psychotic symptoms, and differences between the diagnostic groups on hypnotizability, memory disturbances, brain imaging, auditory verbal hallucinations and psychological testing Written for clinicians, researchers and academics in the areas of trauma, child abuse, dissociation and psychosis, but relevant for psychiatrists, psychologists and psychotherapists working in any area, the revised second edition of Psychosis, Trauma and Dissociation makes an invaluable contribution to this important evolving field.

Book Description
Belief in possession, including from demonic forces, has ancient roots and continues into the modern world, especially among certain communities. This has been shown in books, movies, places of worship, and in the therapy office. This book traces the global history of possession and looks at ways contemporary mental health professionals can help a person who believes themselves to be possessed. Written especially for clinicians, but interesting to a wide variety of readers, this book uses a variety of disciplines, including cultural studies, psychology, and personal experiences, to try and understand the phenomenon from as wide a perspective as possible, including interviews with exorcists from various backgrounds. Both believers and sceptics will find this to be a fascinating study of a controversial topic.
