Book Description
The rise and rationalization of the industrial phosphates industry have gone hand in hand with the development and maturation of technologies to purify phosphoric acid. In the 1960s and 70s, driven by the exponential sales growth of the detergent-builder sodium tripolyphosphate, chemical producers raced to develop processes that would provide a suf

Book Description
It's the first and only book of its kind to cover the far-reaching environmental impact of the phosphate industry. PHOSPHORIC ACID AND PHOSPHATE FERTILIZERS is an experience-based review of recently developed sulfuric acid manufacturing techniques -- aimed at students, professionals and new aspirants/entrants to the industry. With over 55 years' experience in the phosphorous industry, Mohamed I. Elgafi, encapsulates a variety of thrilling, recent advances, such as:* The effects of solid, liquid, gas and radiation pollution;* Fluorides, heavy metals, uranium, rare earth metal issues and recovery;* Futuristic trends in mining, mineral processing, phosphoric acid and phosphate production;* Phosphoric acid industry corrosion;* Time-tested and preferred materials of construction for manufacturing, storage, handling, and selection criteria; * Recycling technologies and sustainability aspects of non-renewable phosphorus needed to maintain the biological integrity of humans and animals; * Simulation, optimization, data science applicability and functionality in the industry;* Energy consumption in a phosphoric acid production complex;* Description of premium equipment provided by world-class builders;* Phosphate chemistry, phosphate rocks, world resources and reserves, plus production and price data.Mr. Elgafi comes highly recommended by the following phosphate industry leaders:Prof./Dr. Ewald Schnug Director, Institute for Plant and Soil Science JKI, Braunschweig:Mohamed Elgafi's book provides a complete overview on the phosphate industry, as well as the development cycle of phosphates, from rock to fertilizer products. Especially intriguing is the detailed description of case histories. The dedication of an entire chapter to uranium makes the book outstanding among the number of already existing books on phosphorous. The book fully satisfies the appetite of those who want to know the tiniest detail of phosphate fertilizer production. It ́s wealth of background information for any aspect makes it a perfect source and provides deeply rooted, state-of-the-art knowledge, as a foundation for lectures and your own forthcoming publications. Dr. Vaughn V Astle; Dr. Phosphate, Inc.: The materials I reviewed in Mr. Elgafi's book will certainly give the reader, and any technical person, significant understanding of the intricacies of the phosphoric acid industry, together with insight as to what is required to understand the wet process phosphoric acid and fertilizer industry. A very good read indeed. Particularly interesting is his Phosphorus Sustainability and Recycling coverage, considering the poor, overall conversion of mined phosphorus, end-product fertilizers. Mr. Elgafi's overall coverage, from mining through beneficiation, phosphoric acid manufacture, phosphogypsum disposal, fertilizers, P sustainability, and even Uranium and Rare Earth opportunities is excellent! A detailed primer on what it takes to succeed in the phosphate fertilizer business.

Book Description
Phosphoric acid is an important industrial acid that is utilized for manufacturing phosphatic fertilizers and industrial products, for pickling and posterior treatment of steel surfaces to prevent corrosion, for ensuring appropriate paint adhesion, and for the food and beverages industry, e.g., cola-type drinks to impart taste and slight acidity and to avoid iron sedimentation. This industry is spread out in countries of four continents - Asia, Africa, America, and Europe - which operate mines and production plants and produce fertilizers. Phosacid is one of the most widely known acids. The global phosacid market and its many phosphate derivatives are expanding worldwide; this trend is expected to continue in the next years, thus producing innovative products.

Book Description
The production of phosphoric acid by sulfuric acid from high iron content phosphate rocks such as (Abu-Tartur phosphate rocks) has many disadvantages as low quality of produced acid and huge amounts of calcium sulfate. Also traditional process for production of dicalcium phosphate from wet phosphoric acid takes many steps. According to these problems, this work concerned to produce feed grade DCP by direct acidulation of Abu-Tartur phosphate rock with HCl in order to decrease production cost and produce relatively pure phosphoric acid. The leaching of phosphate ore by using dilute HCl was achieved in order to get maximum P2O5 leaching relative to minimum impurities. Kinetic analysis of the data indicates that the leaching process is ash layer diffusion controlled process. The production of DCP from direct acidulate phosphate rock was achieved by precipitating P2O5 by CaCO3. This process has many advantages over the conventional H2SO4 as: decrease production cost. In addition, the production of phosphoric acid from the produced DCP overcomes the traditional production problems and the produced phosphoric acid is more pure than the phosphoric acid produced directly by phosphate ore.
