Esta monografía ofrece un análisis sistemático de las diversas formas de medir la desigualdad en la distribución de la renta y de sus aplicaciones a la evaluación del bienestar. Se parte de un estudio pormenorizado de los índices de desigualdad, que son los instrumentos conceptuales para medir e interpretar la dispersión de la renta, incluyendo tanto una descripción de las propiedades básicas de estos índices como una comparación de los juicios de valor que incorporan. Especial atención se presta al análisis de la descomponibilidad de los índices según el estudio del origen y la naturaleza de la desigualdad. En particular, es posible estimar qué parte de la desigualdad social es atribuible a las diferencias de renta entre y dentro de los diversos grupos sociales o regiones que componen la sociedad, o qué parte puede atribuirse a la remuneración de los diferentes factores productivos. También permite abordar el estudio de la igualdad de oportunidades, al ser posible separar la desigualdad asociada a las circunstancias de aquélla derivada de las decisiones de los individuos. Uno de los elementos distintivos de este trabajo es el esfuerzo por integrar el análisis de la desigualdad en el contexto más amplio de la evaluación del bienestar. Esta obra presenta un marco conceptual preciso que se aplica al estudio de la evolución del bienestar en España y sus comunidades autónomas, al análisis de la igualdad de oportunidades y a la estimación del coste económico de la discriminación salarial por razones de género.

The Communication Lexicon is a new concept; it is a new source of information in the field of language and area studies. Its focus is on people's way of thinking, their frame of reference, their characteristic outlook on life. Compared to the more traditional area studies, our main focus is not on history or religion or geography, not on tangible material realities of existence in a particular country, but rather on people's shared subjective views of those real ities which are dominant in their minds. The focus of the analysis is essentially psychological; it is centered on perceptions and motivations which influence people's choices and behavior. Compared to individual psychology, the information repre sented by this volume is psycho-cultural in that it is centered on the shared perceptions and motivations which people with the same language, backgrounds, and experiences develop together into a shared cultural view or subjective representation of their universe.
