L'accroissement du parc automobile a engendré le problème de la pollution atmosphérique. Des systèmes catalytiques ont alors été développés en vue de réduire ces émissions polluantes. Les véhicules munis de moteur diesel sont handicapés par la présence à l'échappement de petites particules riches en carbone et d'oxydes d'azote. La littérature a montré que la zéolithe Cu-ZsM-5 est capable de réduire les oxydes d'azote dans les conditions d'un échappement diesel. Au cours de ce travail, l'analyse des régimes transitaires a montré qu'un intermédiaire se synthétisait sur le catalyseur. Il nécessite pour se former la présence de propène et d'oxydes d'azote. L'oxygène n'est pas indispensable à ce niveau. Il a par ailleurs été montré que l'intermédiaire n'est pas constitué par un dépôt de coke, ni par un produit d'oxydation partielle du propène. Le dioxyde d'azote réagit alors avec cet intermédiaire et est réduit en azote. Par une approche quantitative de ces phénomènes, il a été montré qu'une réaction compétitive intervenait entre l'intermédiaire et l'oxygène. Elle contribue à la destruction d'une partie de l'intermédiaire par combustion
