Book Description
In 1976, Twentieth Century Fox bought a screenplay by Dan O'Bannon entitled Star Beast. Three years later with Ridley Scott at the helm, Alien was unleashed on unsuspecting filmgoers. En route to back to Earth, the crew of the starship Snark intercepts an alien transmission. Their investigation leads them to a desolate planetoid, a crashed alien spacecraft, and a pyramidic structure of unknown origin. Then the terror begins . . . Writer Cristiano Seixas and artist Guilherme Balbi have attempted to stay true to the characters, settings, and creatures described in O'Bannon's original screenplay--without replicating the famous designs of Ron Cobb, Moebius, and H.R. Giger. A new experience, but still terrifying! Collects Alien: The Original Screenplay issues #1-#5.

Understanding the Concept of Casting Couch in Hollywood In the glitzy world of Hollywood, where dreams are made and fortunes are won, there exists a dark underbelly that has plagued the industry for decades - the notorious casting couch. This subchapter aims to shed light on the concept of the casting couch, its prevalence in Hollywood, and the devastating effects it has had on countless aspiring actors and actresses. The casting couch refers to the practice of demanding sexual favors in exchange for career advancement or roles in the entertainment industry. It is a despicable abuse of power, where infiuential individuals exploit their positions of authority to prey on vulnerable and ambitious talent seeking their big break. While the casting couch is not limited to Hollywood, it has become synonymous with the glitz and glamour of the film industry. This subchapter delves into the origins of the casting couch, tracing its roots back to the early days of Hollywood. It explores how the lack of regulations and accountability allowed this toxic culture to thrive, with powerful figures taking advantage of their positions to exploit aspiring actors and actresses. It also examines the role of complicity within the industry, as many turned a blind eye or actively participated in perpetuating this culture of exploitation. By highlighting real-life accounts and testimonies from victims, this subchapter aims to bring awareness to the dark secrets of Hollywood's casting couch. It explores the devastating emotional and psychological toll it takes on its victims, often leaving them traumatized, disillusioned, and with shattered dreams. It also examines the lasting impact on the industry itself, as talented individuals are denied opportunities based on their refusal to comply with these unethical demands

Book Description
This book is an investigation of the cultural phenomenon of branding and its transformational effects on the contemporary spatial – and urban – reality. It develops a novel understanding of the rationale behind the construction of large-scale architectural complexes that relate to corporate brands, and of its tremendous cultural effects. The author suggests that what we see today is the creation of "global mass ornaments", of a thorough ornamentalization of the entire globe. The origins of this are discussed with regard to examples of corporate brand-building from Europe and China (Autostadt Wolfsburg, BMW Welt Munich and Anting New Town). Additional cases are several simulated spaces in Berlin and the space-branding activities of companies like Apple or Prada. Theoretically, the author develops an innovative poststructuralist framework, combining ideas from Gilles Deleuze with the space philosophy of Peter Sloterdijk. He analyzes how the corporate redefinition of space makes the city enter into a mode of virtual urbanity. This idea leads to a notion of a "global urban" and, ultimately, the "global mass ornament". This concept of a global mass ornament is developed here with reference to Sloterdijk’s concept of a world of "spheres". The latter is used to understand the new mode of spatiality of mediatized spaces. The book makes the point that our world is involved in a process of mass ornamentalization that has only just begun. The concept of the global mass ornament is the first to come to grips with a culture in which branding is effectively changing the physiognomy of the earth. The global mass ornament is a banner for a cultural transformation that employs architecture, sign theory and mechanisms borrowed from traditional advertising and from social media, as well as social processes – and that we have yet to properly understand. This book is a significant step forward in this respect.
