Book Description
This is the second volume of a four volume set intended to describe the techniques and applications of thermoanalytical and calorimetric methods. The general techniques and methodology are covered extensively in Volume 1, along with the fundamental physicochemical background needed. Consequently the subsequent volumes dwell on the applications of these powerful and versatile methods, while assuming a familiarity with the techniques.Volume 2 covers major areas of inorganic materials and some related general topics, e.g., catalysis, geochemistry, and the preservation of art. The chapters are written by established practitioners in the field with the intent of presenting a sampling of the how thermoanalytical and calorimetric methods have contributed to progress in their respective areas. The chapters are not intended as exhaustive reviews of the topics, but rather, to illustrate to the readers what has been achieved and to encourage them to consider extending these applications further into their domains of interest.- Provides an appreciation for how thermal methods can be applied to inorganic materials and processes.- Provides an insight into the versatility of thermal methods.- Shares the experiences of experts in a variety of different fields.- A valuable reference source covering a huge area of materials coverage.

Book Description
This book is a collection of papers on the subject of applied system dynamics and control written by experts in this field. It offers the reader a sampling of exciting research areas in three fast-growing branches: (i) Wave Motion (ii) Intelligent Structures (iii) Nonlinear Mechanics. The topics covered include flow instability, nonlinear mode localization autoparametric systems with pendula, and geometric stiffening in multibody dynamics. Mathematical methods include perturbation methods, modern control theory, nonlinear neural nets, and resonance scattering theory of Überall-Ripoche-Maze. Applications include sound-induced structural vibrations, fiber acoustic waveguides, vibration suppression of structures, linear control of gyroscopic systems, and nonlinear control of distributed systems. This book shows how applied system dynamics and control is currently being utilized and investigated. It will be of interest to engineers, applied mathematicians and physicists.

Book Description
This book is an original and timeless description of the elasticity of solids, and more particularly of crystals, covering all aspects from theory and elastic constants to experimental moduli. The first part is dedicated to a phenomenological and dimensionless representation of macroscopic crystal elasticity, which allows us to compare all crystals of the same symmetry with the concept of anisotropy and to establish new relations between elastic constants. Multi-scale approaches are then put forward to describe the elasticity at an atomic scale or for polycrystals. The relationship between elasticity and structural or physical properties is illustrated by many experimental data. The second part is entirely devoted to a Lagrangian theory of vibrations and its application to the characterization of elasticity by means of the dynamic resonant method. This unique approach applied to tensioncompression, flexural and torsional tests allows for an accurate determination of elastic moduli of structural and functional crystals, varying from bulk to multi-coated materials
