The next area of discussion addresses the foundational work related to playing the trumpet with an inventory of method books to explore what is beneficial and what is missing in creating a versatile trumpet player. This continues into the method books available for learning the jazz trumpet style. The following section includes the rationale behind blending classical and jazz trumpet pedagogies, focusing on using what the trumpet player already knows in one style and applying it to skills and concepts of the other style. This is succeeded by research on existing blended method books that incorporate classical and jazz trumpet techniques. Upon the dissection of the available method books, suggestions are offered on the next steps in blending classical and jazz trumpet method books.
