Book Description
This thesis sheds valuable new light on the second-order cosmological perturbation theory, extensively discussing it in the context of cosmic microwave background (CMB) fluctuations. It explores the observational consequences of the second-order vector mode, and addresses magnetic field generation and the weak lensing signatures, which are key phenomena of the vector mode. The author demonstrates that the second-order vector mode, which never appears at the linear-order level, naturally arises from the non-linear coupling of the first-order scalar modes. This leads to the remarkable statement that the vector-order mode clearly contributes to the generation of cosmological magnetic fields. Moreover, the weak lensing observations are shown to be accessible to the vector mode. On the basis of ongoing and forthcoming observations, the thesis concludes that the second-order vector mode is detectable.

Book Description
This book studies the evolution of scalar cosmological perturbations in the 1+3 Covariant Gauge-Invariant formalism for generic f(R) theories of gravity. It provides with a complete set of equations describing the evolution of matter and curvature fluctuations for a multi-fluid cosmological medium. It also deals with a specific model of a radiation-dust fluid universe described by barotropic equations of state where the perturbation equations are applied around a background solution of a specific toy model of gravity and looks at exact solutions for scales much smaller and much larger than the Hubble radius.

Book Description
While magnetic fields permeate the universe on all scales, the present book is dedicated to their investigation on the largest scales and affords a balanced account of both theoretical and observational aspects. Written as a set of advanced lectures and tutorial reviews that lead up to the forefront of research, this book offers both a modern source of reference for the experienced researchers as well as a high-level introductory text for postgraduate students and nonspecialist researchers working in related areas.

Book Description
The use of the observational properties of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) to constrain the presence of different components in the universe, which perturb the background metric, is nowadays a well-established methodology in Cosmology. In this thesis the methodology is applied to three cases: primordial magnetic fields, a hypothetical electric charge asymmetry in the universe, and the inflaton field. The main part of the thesis deals with the problem of cosmic magnetic fields: assuming that they were formed in the early universe, we derive upper bounds on their intensity and analyse the imprint of a helical magnetic field on the CMB. We also study the effect of a global electric charge asymmetry, and deduce upper limits on the charge of some fundamental particles, partly improving the current ones from laboratory experiments. The first chapters of the thesis are dedicated to the review of the theoretical framework at the basis of the treated topics: we give an overview of the physics of cosmic magnetic fields, from observations to the theory of their generation, of cosmological linear perturbation theory and of the formalism of CMB anisotropies and polarisation.

Book Description
Cosmology the branch of astronomy which studies the formation and evolution of the structure of the entire universe on the largest scales. Recent observations seem to indicate the presence of magnetic fields on all scales of the universe. It is possible that magnetic fields have existed since very early times while the mechanisms exist to generate these fields in the late universe. Here in our research we studied the velocity perturbation scenario as a dynamo amplification of the primordial seeds field. We describe the early universe stage as multifluid, consisting of charge-neutral two-component matter and radiation fluids, linearised around the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker models. The oscillatory behaviour of the electromagnetic field with a new weakly damped mode is identified in addition to the standard gravitational instability picture. Vertical velocity perturbations are further found to generate magnetic fields of sufficient strength to provide a seed for the galactic dynamo. Subsequent amplification in such a way could easily lead to the observed magnetic fields in galaxies."
