Book Description
Deep subsurface characterization technologies and demands are changing rapidly within the energy industry. In this swiftly evolving landscape, the wide range of analyses performed on the rocks and fluids obtained from cores remain fundamental tools in managing subsurface uncertainty and associated risk. During the energy transition large volumes of newly acquired and legacy core will be accessed to better understand both existing hydrocarbon resources and other subsurface energy-related systems, particularly for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), geothermal energy and the long-term storage of nuclear waste. Through state-of-the-art reviews and case studies this volume illustrates how innovative approaches continue to create value from both new and historical cores recovered for deep subsurface reservoir characterization and storage complex evaluation. Such an assessment is timely given that the sector sits at a pivotal point in terms of changing technologies, economics, demographics, skillsets and energy solutions.

Book Description
The Second World War is omnipresent in contemporary memory debates. As the war fades from living memory, this study is the first to systematically analyze how Second World War museums allow prototypical visitors to comprehend and experience the past. It analyzes twelve permanent exhibitions in Europe and North America – including the Bundeswehr Military History Museum in Dresden, the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, the House of European History in Brussels, the Imperial War Museums in London and Manchester, and the National WWII Museum in New Orleans – in order to show how museums reflect and shape cultural memory, as well as their cognitive, ethical, emotional, and aesthetic potential and effects. This includes a discussion of representations of events such as the Holocaust and air warfare. In relation to narrative, memory, and experience, the study develops the concept of experientiality (on a sliding scale between mimetic and structural forms), which provides a new textual-spatial method for reading exhibitions and understanding the experiences of historical individuals and collectives. It is supplemented by concepts like transnational memory, empathy, and encouraging critical thinking through difficult knowledge.

Book Description
Today's highly fraught historical moment brings a resurgence of antisemitism. Antisemitic incidents of all kinds are on the rise across the world, including hate speech, the spread of neo-Nazi graffiti and other forms of verbal and written threats, the defacement of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries, and acts of murderous terror. Contending with Antisemitism in a Rapidly Changing Political Climate is an edited collection of 18 essays that address antisemitism in its new and resurgent forms. Against a backdrop of concerning political developments such as rising nationalism and illiberalism on the right, new forms of intolerance and anti-liberal movements on the left, and militant deeds and demands by Islamic extremists, the contributors to this timely and necessary volume seek to better understand and effectively contend with today's antisemitism.

Book Description
This book comprises proceedings of the 2022 International Forum “Science and Global Challenges of the XXI Century”. The main principle of the Forum’s program is interdisciplinarity, the formation of end-to-end innovation chains: fundamental and applied research, technology development, implementation, and wide application of networks and systems. In 2022, the central theme of the forum is innovations and technologies in interdisciplinary applications. The book covers a wide range of knowledge-communication methodologies and effective technologies for processing data in various forms and areas. The book might interest researchers working at the interface of disciplines, such as e-learning, digital humanities, computational linguistics, cognitive studies, GIS, digital geography, machine learning, and others. It can also be a valuable source of information for Bachelor and Master students with open curricula or majors and minors who seek to find a balance between several fields of their interest.

Book Description
Since the turn of the century, geology has advanced dramatically, with materials derived from extra-terrestrial sources meaning that it now encompasses cosmology, and new technologies providing ever more sophisticated possibilities for the conducting of research. This book, Unconventional Methods for Geoscience, Shale Gas and Petroleum in the 21st Century, aims to provide research directions for geology in the 21st century. As Eric Hobsbawm wrote, it is difficult to write the history of one’s own days, and selecting influential methods was no easy task, but an attempt has been made to include the most influential papers that represent the smart geology of the first few decades of the 21st century. The book presents 22 papers; the first serves as an introduction to biology, which is now expanding into the science of the cosmos following the discovery of previously missing information, and the remaining 21 papers are divided into 3 sections entitled Modelling, Simulation and Optimization. The importance of theoretical approaches from physics, mathematics, and statistics underlying meta-heuristic methods, knowledge and approaches is acknowledged, and there is a chapter dedicated to deep learning. The book contributes to the exploration of various possible solutions to challenging problems in both the Earth’s geology and that of the cosmos, and will be of interest to all those working in the field.
