Book Description
'Conversion of a High Priest into a Christian Worker' is an autobiography of the author's life, Meletios Golden. He was a high priest of the Greek Orthodox Church who left Greece for New York, and eventually left his position to become a preacher. He lays out his reasoning to do so in the following passage: "... there are a great number of intelligent minds, among the priests, in the Greek-Russian and Roman Catholic churches, who would make good soldiers of Jesus Christ, and some of them might develop into heroes of Truth and Righteousness, if they could only deny themselves of the luxuries and lofty life attached to their priesthood. And this problem of selfishness is an absolute barrier not only to their own Salvation, but to many a soul, who might have been saved from sin, and be converted to God, and usefulness, but for the Priest."

And this prob lem of selfishness is an absolute barrier not only to their own Salvation, but to many a soul, who might have been saved from sin, and be converted to God, and usefulness, but for the Priest. The solution of the problem was the clue which aided me to escape from the labyrinth of doubt; and now, standing upon the rock of unshaken faith, I offer the clue that guided me to others. Book Description
Excerpt from Early Conversion: Showing How Children and Young People Can Be Led to Jesus and Prepared for Church Membership I AM sure that the Church of Jesus Christ is sadly neglecting the children. It is true that we have our Sun day schools and other organizations for the training of children in the knowledge of the Word and God, but there is not that definite work for their conversion that there should be. N 0 other form of Christian effort brings such imme diate, such large, and such lasting results as work for the conversion of children. It has many advantages over other forms of work. First of all, children are more easily led to Christ than adults. In the second place, they are more likely to stay converted than those apparently con verted at a later period of life. They also make better Christians, as they do not have so much to unlearn as those who have grown Old in sin. They have more years of service before them. A man converted at sixty is a a soul saved plus ten years of service; a child saved at ten is a soul saved plus sixty years of service. Book Description
Excerpt from Our One Priest on High, or the Present Sacerdotal Function of Christ in Heaven: What It Is Not, and What It Is The present publication may be regarded as a supple ment to my pamphlet on The Christian Doctrine Of Sacerdotium. I regretted (p. 51) that in that address it was impossible for me to deal with two texts in the Epistle to the Hebrews (p. Which are alleged as supporting the sacrificing Office Of Christ in the heavens. None who are well acquainted with the details Of our present controversies will question the importance Of meet ing the arguments which have been based upon these two texts. I have accordingly desired here to show that their true meaning has sometimes been seriously misunderstood. Book Description
Excerpt from The Doctrine of the Priesthood in the Church of England WO different views are held of the meaning of the name, and of the character of the ministry, of a Priest. They may be distinguished as the Presbyter, and the Sacerdotal view. As one or other prevails, an entirely different idea of the Church system is the result. On a question important, not merely for its own sake, but in its connection also with other kindred doctrines, especially with the whole sacramental system of the Church, as well as many practical details of the spiritual life, it is of great moment to ascertain What the Church teaches. Our inquiry is limited to the doc trine of the Church of England on the point in ques tion but inasmuch as the Church of England refers to Holy Scripture, and the early undivided Church, for the groundwork of its judgments, and the meaning, when ever doubtful, of its rules and services, it becomes ne cessary to extend the scope of the argument, so as to embrace the records of antiquity and the Word of god. The line proposed to be pursued is, first to state the Presbyter View, together with the authority on which it rests, and then to contrast with it what the writer believes to be the uniformly fixed, and only possible Church view of the question. The conclusions to be gathered from the teaching of the Church of England will first be considered, and afterwards the traditions of the Catholic Church, and the revelations of the Holy Scriptures. In conclusion, some considerations will be offered as to the principles of a priestly ministry, and an answer to certain leading objections which are com monly taken against the existence of such a ministry in the Christian Church.
