Book Description
Artist residencies provide space, time, and concentration for making art, doing research and for reflection. Residencies are crucial nodes in international circulation and career development, but also invaluable infrastructures for critical thinking and artistic experimentation, cross-cultural collaboration, interdisciplinary knowledge production, and site-specific research. The globalization process and the demands of the creative economy have had an impact on artist residencies. Ecological and geopolitical urgencies are now also affecting them more and more. In response, many residencies today actively search for more sustainable alternatives than the current neoliberal condition allows for artistic practice. With a range of critical insights from the field of residencies, this book asks what the present role of artist residencies is in relation to artists and the art ecosystem amid transformations in society.

Book Description
"This timely volume challenges the narrow Western-centrism of most art historical models. Archeologists have found that, for tens of thousands of years, all human cultures have shared a desire for visual representation or expression. Yet the study of art history has traditionally focused on Western artworks of the past few centuries. World Art Studies examines the phenomenon of art through a broader cultural, global, and temporal perspective, bringing together a uniquely exhaustive range of perspectives on art and borrowing approaches from the study of neuroscience, evolutionary biology, anthropology and geography as models - alongside more conventional art historical perspectives. In musicology or linguistics, using such diverse viewpoints for reflection and research is considered part of the normal process. In that spirit, this volume goes beyond abstract models, using case studies to demonstrate and examine specific methods of investigation."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Description
"People and societies thrive on a versatile and imaginative awareness. Yet the critical debate on arts education is still too often about the qualities of artefacts and technical skills, and tends to neglect issues such as the critical function of the arts in society, artistic cognition and cognitive development, changing artistic and cultural practices, and research into arts participation. Therefore it seems time for a change in perspective, shifting the focus from the qualities of artefacts to those of embodiede cognitive and social processes. Arts Education Beyond Art argues that education of the arts, both for children and adults, should focus on the qualities of the processes generated by the artistic artefacts, and on these artefacts as means to an end. Instead of teaching how to look at art, we should teach how to look at life - through art" --> s hrbta ov.

Book Description
An ethereal new collection that is “visceral with intellection” (David Lau) Winner of the Bollingen Prize Finalist for the National Book Award Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry Finalist for the PEN Open Book Award Finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Prize A Treatise on Stars extends Mei-mei Berssenbrugge’s intensely phenomenological poetics to the fiery bodies in a “field of heaven…outside spacetime.” Long, lyrical lines map a geography of interconnected, interdimensional intelligence that exists in all places and sentient beings. These are poems of deep listening and patient waiting, open to the cosmic loom, the channeling of daily experience and conversation, gestalt and angels, dolphins and a star-visitor beneath a tree. Family, too, becomes a type of constellation, a thought “a form of organized light.” All of our sense are activated by Berssenbrugge’s radiant lines, giving us a poetry of keen perception grounded in the physical world, where “days fill with splendor, and earth offers its pristine beauty to an expanding present.”

Book Description
The Site Residency (TSR) was imagined as an artists residency that would result in no material production, a program oriented toward the secret world of doing nothing and its consequences. Conceptually grounded in the theories and practices of withdrawal and critical questioning of creation, materiality and objectified artistic outputartistic strategies from the 1960s and 70sTSR offered an escape from rigid institutional structures and gallery/studio-based production. Introduced by Lvia Pldi and with a contribution by the residencys conceptualizer, Sebastian Cichocki, this publication presents visual and textual materials by the residencys three participating artists, Annika Eriksson, Susanne Kriemann and Agnieszka Polska, including literary fictions by ghostwriters who translated their experiences. TSR created the opportunity for various artistic and curatorial processes, fantasies and trajectories to intersect in unique and significant ways and the design of the book follows in this spirit, allowing the thought fragments, notes, stories and poetic observations of the participants to intertwine and inviting the reader into its free-floating conversation.

Book Description
Since 2016 AWAY - a project around residencies, under the leadership of Alexandra Grausam, has been highlighting the renowned Artists Residency Program, in which the Federal Chancellery of Austria has been sending local artists into the world since the 1970s. With the exhibition Stories from abroad, in the same year, this important area of Austrian art funding was made visibile to the broader public for the first time. A theoretical examination of the topic took place in talks and a symposium with experts, comprised in the Laboratory, AWAY's discursive program.0The book is divided into five parts, each containing a theoretical text as well as an artistic contributions, statements and diary entries of the participating scholarship holders. While the first chapter is devoted to the historical development of residence programs and the studio program of the Federal Chancellery, the following section describes the extensive and diverse concept of AWAY - a project around residencies. The third part focuses on different destinations and the associated mobility of artists. The last two chapters explore the questions of dealing with the particular location and its concrete retrospective effect on the artistic work.00Exhibition: c/o Wien, Austria (10.11. - 10.12.2018).
