Contexte : Les personnes âgées sont souvent polypathologiques et par la même, polymédiquées. Les patients âgés ayant une mauvaise connaissance de leurs médicaments sont plus à risque d'accidents iatrogènes. Cette étude avait pour objectif d'évaluer la connaissance qu'a cette population de leurs médicaments. Méthode : Cette étude prospective a évalué cet état de connaissance chez 150 patients de plus de 75 ans dans 10 cabinets de médecine générale de la région Nord Pas de Calais. Le recueil des données s'est basé sur un questionnaire et un tableau relatant la dénomination des médicaments, l'indication du traitement, sa forme galénique, sa posologie et horaires de prises, les vigilances particulières, effets indésirables et durée du traitement. Les données du tableau ont permis d'établir un score de connaissance. Résultats : La connaissance des médicaments chez les sujets âgés était insuffisante dans son ensemble. Seuls 16% des patients interrogés connaissaient leur traitement de façon satisfaisante. Différents facteurs influençant cette connaissance ont été mis en évidence comme l'âge, le nombre total de médicaments pris par un patient ou encore la lecture par le patient de la notice de leurs médicaments. Conclusion : Les patients âgés sont des patients complexes nécessitant une prise en charge pluridisciplinaire coordonnée, personnalisée et mise à jour régulièrement. La réalisation d'une carte de traitement permettrait également d'améliorer cette connaissance.

While in the late 1970s and early 1980s health compliance research on adults represented a vigorous field of study, a marked decline of interest on the topic set in during the last part of the 1980s. By contrast, research on health compliance involving pediatric populations was less popular during the same period; however, interest in this topic -- as evidenced by the contributions to this volume -- is on the increase. Four main themes -- relating to theory, measurement, prevention, and intervention -- emerge and are interwoven among the chapters. Based on a recently completed project of cultural consultation in Montreal, Cultural Consultation presents a model of multicultural and applicable health care. The European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) is a scientific and educational association which represents a variety of disciplines. The first ECNP congress took place in Copenhagen, May 1985, where a working group of European scientists within the field of psychopharmacology was elected to prepare a constituent ECNP congress in Brussels, 1987. Among the most active members of this group was Max Hamilton. At the second ECNP congress in Brussels Max Hamilton was elected as the first honorary member of the ECNP. When we received the message of his death we decided at once to arrange a Max Hamilton memorial symposium at the third ECNP congress, May 1989, in Gothenburg, Sweden. This monograph contains the proceedings of the Max Hamilton symposium which was chaired by the editors. The opening lecture of the third ECNP congress was a Max Hamilton lecture: "A life devoted to science in psychiatry" which was presented by Sir Martin Roth. It seemed obvious to include Sir Martin's lecture as the opening article of this monograph. Although G .E. Berrios was unable to participate in the ECNP congress we have found it logical to include his manuscript on "The Hamilton Depression Scale and the Numerical Description of the Symptoms of Depression" as another personal contribution to Max Hamilton and his rating scales.
