Book Description
Pursuant to Title V of Public Law 102-25, the Department of Defense has prepared this Interim Report on the Conduct of the Persian Gulf Conflict. This report reflects many of the preliminary impressions formed by the Department since the cessation of hostilities. However, much of the technical information needed for sound analysis is still being collected. The final report of the Commander-in-Chief of Central Command has not yet been completed. Nonetheless, it is possible to describe some of the key events that occurred in this conflict and to identify preliminary some lessons to be learned. The Department of Defense will continue to study the lessons of the war and will submit a final Report in accordance with Title V in January 1992.

Book Description
Originally published in 1999, America's Space Sentinels won the American Astronautical Society's prestigious Eugene Emme Astronautical Literature Award and quickly established itself as the definitive book for understanding a crucial component of our national defense capabilities. It focused on the emergence and evolution of the Air Force's Defense Support Program (DSP) satellite system, which came on line in 1970 and continued to perform at a high level through the turn of this century and beyond. For this new edition, Jeffrey Richelson covers significant developments during the last dozen years relating to the deployment of these satellites, especially the struggles to develop and launch the follow-on Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS), beginning in the late 1990s and continuing up to the present. The result is a book that remains the first and best source of information regarding these vital programs. As Richelson notes, SBIRS, like its aging but still functioning predecessor, has been designed primarily to provide instant early warning of missile launches from around the globe-particularly China, Russia, North Korea, Pakistan, India, and Iran-through the infra-red sensors carried on each satellite. But the new system-beset by hardware, software, fiscal, and political problems-has only managed to move forward in fits and starts. While it has done so, the DSP system has continued to monitor the skies above the earth; two key ground stations in Australia and Germany have closed; nuclear powers Russia and the United States conferred extensively over the so-called Y2K problem (concerned that a computer malfunction might produce false alarms of a missile attack); and worries over potential launches from nations perceived as hostile to American interests have increased substantially.

Book Description
The Conduct of the Persian Gulf War should be read by every U.S. military officer because it has certainly been read by the Chinese military. In 2013, the Academy of Military Sciences of the People''s Liberation Army of China issued a revised edition of its "The Science of Military Strategy" (SMS). A Chinese-language copy was obtained by Secrecy News and we translated it to English. If you read the Chinese account of the Persian War, you will see that the Chinese military was astonished at the rapidity with which the U.S. and Coalition forces defeated one of the largest and best equipped armies in the world. This was an army that had years of experience fighting against Iran so they were experienced. Still, the Chinese saw that the Iraqi army was no match for what they were up against. The U.S. and coalition success in the Persian Gulf War pretty much woke up the Chinese People''s Liberation Army (PLA) that they had better modernize if they were ever have to go up against the U.S. on the battlefield. I am pretty sure that the lessons of the Persian Gulf War were not lost on other foreign military around the world. The Persian Gulf War was really only the tip of the iceberg when we talk about 21st Century Warfare. It showed that war in the future would be complex and asymmetrical. If you did not fight in Desert Storm, this makes interesting reading. The performance of the weaponry and the professionalism displayed by the coalition forces working together was not accidental. It took hard work and careful planning. This is not a lesson we should forget. This should be mandatory reading in all the U.S. service academies. It is most probably mandatory in foreign military academies. This is Volume 2 of 3 (Total book was over 1,300 pages) and contains: Appendix T - Performance of Selected Weapon Systems Appendix A - U.S. Fatalities and Prisoners of War Attributed Directly to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm From 3 Aug 1990 to 15 December 1991 Appendix B - United Nations Resolutions on Iraq Appendix C - Intelligence Appendix D - Preparedness of United States Forces Appendix E - Deployment Appendix F - Logistics Buildup and Sustainment Appendix G - Medical Support Appendix H - Reserve Component Forces Appendix I - Coalition Development, Coordination, and Welfare Appendix J - Special Operations Forces Why buy a book you can download for free? We print this book so you don''t have to. First you gotta find a good clean (legible) copy and make sure it''s the latest version (not always easy). Some documents found on the web are missing some pages or the image quality is so poor, they are difficult to read. We look over each document carefully and replace poor quality images by going back to the original source document. We proof each document to make sure it''s all there - including all changes. If you find a good copy, you could print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people (typically its either out of paper or toner). If it''s just a 10-page document, no problem, but if it''s 250-pages, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. It''s much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com This book includes original commentary which is copyright material. Note that government documents are in the public domain. We print these large documents as a service so you don''t have to. The books are compact, tightly-bound, full-size (8 1⁄2 by 11 inches), with large text and glossy covers. 4th Watch Publishing Co. is a SDVOSB. www.usgovpub.com If you like the service we provide, please leave positive review on Amazon.com so we can continue to serve our country and support the warfighter.
