A Justification for Increasing New Jersey Pine Barrens Protection Efforts
Author: Jennifer Van Istendal
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Land use, Rural
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
In 1979, the state of New Jersey and the federal government aligned their efforts in order to protect and enrich the natural and cultural resources of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. With the passage of the National Parks and Recreation Act of 1978, the Pinelands National Reserve was established in combination with a governing body to manage it, namely the Pinelands Commission. Through its implementation of the Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP), the New Jersey Pinelands Commission is responsible for protecting the Pinelands with respect to preserving the unique ecological integrity, while allowing harmonious development. This applied professional project aims to emphasis the uniquely rich qualities of the Pinelands, as well as reevaluate the governing legislation of the Pinelands, highlight its strengths and weaknesses, and identify opportunities to make amendments and further protect the Pinelands. This project critiques the current practices of the Pinelands Commission and the previous state government administration (2010-2018) and recommends significantly more enforcement of Pineland Commission regulations and modification of regulations as needed.
