Book Description
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to compare isokinetic to isometric strength training programs for the quadriceps femoris muscles of the right lower extremities of 20 college-aged females. Subjects were randomly assigned to either the isokinetic (n=10) or isometric (n=10) strength training group. Pretests and post-tests were administered on the KIN-COM isokinetically at 30, 90, and 180 degrees per second and isometrically at 30, 60, and 90 degrees of knee flexion. Training for all subjects occurred three times a week for four consecutive weeks on the KIN-COM. The isokinetic training group performed ten repetitions at 30, 90, and 180 degrees per second during each training session. The isometric training group performed ten repetitions at 30, 60, and 90 degrees of knee flexion during each training session. Group means of the peak torques and standard deviations were calculated for the pretest and the post-test data. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) (p
