Sonoma Creek & Tributaries Hydrologic Investigation
Author: Philip Williams & Associates
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Floods
Languages : en
Pages :
Book Description
This hydrologic investigation is one component of a series of studies by the Southern Sonoma County Resource Conservation District (SSCRCD), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the California Coastal Conservancy (CCC) to explore watershed management and flood hazard reduction opportunities in the Sonoma Creek watershed. Design flows computed in the current study are intended for use in the subsequent phase of the project, which will address hydraulic analyses and explore flood hazard reduction opportunities. The results from the current analysis can be used as flow parameters in the hydraulic and sediment transport modeling of the focus reach. This study provides a detailed assessment of rainfall-runoff processes in the Sonoma Creek watershed. The study provides detailed estimates of peak flood flows and runoff hydrographs at various locations throughout the watershed. This data will provide an important input to subsequent studies to develop and evaluate flood management alternatives in the lower watershed. Specific objectives of the current hydrologic study include developing a rainfall-runoff model of the Sonoma Creek watershed, using the model to characterize the existing and future hydrology of the watershed, calibrate the model using available rainfall-runoff data, compare the rainfall-runoff model results with those obtained from statistical analysis and from prior studies, and characterize the suspended sediment and bed load in Sonoma Creek to inform future hydraulic and sediment analyses.
