Book Description
Is the legend true? Could she not only be loved but married by Christmas? When Terri McMillan finds the perfect farmhouse on a salt marsh, an old dream reawakens to foster troubled teenaged girls. It's no matter the small coastal town is her distant sister's safe haven, a place where Terri is unwanted. But Terri is burnt-out on city life and the house's charm is tempting, along with the myth that the house has Christmas magic. As the legend goes, whoever moves into the homestead will not only fall in love, but will be married by Christmas. Matt Baker, the owner, wants one final Christmas in his grandparent's home before selling it. He wants to spend a last family Christmas at the homestead in exchange for free labor to restore the neglected house. He and Terri may disagree about the details of the restoration, but there's an attraction between them that neither anticipated. Things grow personal when they discover an old hat box in the attic containing letters and a diary from his grandparents during the Vietnam War. Together they discover an old family secret, the true meaning of love, and the reason behind the Christmas lore--which makes them wonder ... Could love like this still exist? The magic of Christmas just might be working.

Book Description
It's the most wonderful time of the year… and the perfect moment to escape to a charming English village! From the beloved author whose novels are "sheer indulgence from start to finish" (SOPHIE KINSELLA) comes a delightful holiday story — funny, heartfelt, romantic and packed with recipes — perfect for the winter months. In the Cornish coastal village of Mount Polbearne, the Christmas season has arrived. It’s a joyous time for family, friends, and feasting, as decorations sparkle along the town’s winding streets and shop windows glow with festive displays. And in Polly’s Little Beach Street Bakery, the aroma of gingerbread cookies and other treats tempts people in from the cold. Though Polly is busy keeping up with the demands of the season, she still makes time for her beekeeper boyfriend, Huckle. She’s especially happy to be celebrating the holiday this year with him, and can’t wait to cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a cup of eggnog on Christmas Eve. But holiday bliss soon gives way to panic when a storm cuts the village off from the mainland. Now it will take all of the villagers to work together in order to ensure everyone has a happy holiday. Full of heart and humor, Jenny Colgan’s latest novel is an instant Christmastime classic.

Book Description
In coastal towns and communities across the nation, Christmas trees are repurposed after the holiday season into the foundations for sand dunes in places where the dunes have been weakened or eliminated over time by natural erosion. Sand dunes are essential to the maintenance and safety of coastal beaches and the communities that reside therein. This is the story of "Bough" the Christmas tree. A young and ambitious tree, who is looking forward to what he believes is his only purpose: becoming a decorated Christmas tree. However, when the year of his Christmas finally arrives, a massive hurricane occurs""destroying the Christmas tree farm where Bough and his fellow Christmas trees have grown and causing destruction and sadness throughout the coastal community in which the Christmas tree farm resides. This is the story of how an entire harvest of Christmas trees, seemingly destroyed by a hurricane, realize that they have a purpose far greater than becoming decorated for Christmas and that being a "real" Christmas tree has nothing to do with garlands and lights, and everything to do with the true purpose of Christmas, and Christ's messages of sacrifice, compassion, and love.

Book Description
Whilst the early modern period has long been recognized as witnessing a growth in trade and consumerism, the majority of studies to date have tended to focus upon London and southern England. In order to provide a more balanced understanding of the dynamics at work on a national level, this book explores the local economy and waterborne trades of Newcastle and the River Tyne, in North East England. Drawing upon a variety of primary sources - including parish records, probate inventories, Newcastle Exchequer port books and the previously unpublished diary of an apprentice hostman - none of which have been examined previously in this context, the study adds significantly to our understanding of the growing community in North East England. In particular, it underlines the expansion of a thriving middling class with an associated culture of consumption driving a rapid increase in the import, and often re-export of a wide range of luxury items of food, clothing and soft furnishings. As the coal trade and a flourishing general trade with London and other home and overseas ports grew, the book highlights the major impact upon the size and variety of work in the port, and the subsequent increasing size and complexity of the water trades community and its associated business networks.
