"This booklet and accompanying map are near-facsimile reproductions of Clason's North Dakota Green Guide from the collections of the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The original documents are preserved in the State Archives and Historical Research Library, housed in the North Dakota Heritage Center, Bismarck, North Dakota. The New Census Edition was originally published in 1920 at a time in the state's history when highways and trails were being established and improved to accommodate the rapidly growing number of motorists across the country. Distributed by the Commissioner of Immigration, it is clearly written to attract new residents to North Dakota by describing the state in glowing terms. Some of the roads on this map no longer exist or have been replaced by interstate or state highways. Most of the markers for these early trails and some of the towns through which they passed have also disappeared. This reproduction insures that neither will be forgotten."--Publisher's note.
