CFD Analysis of an Axial Flow Fans
Author: Shine Jude Hamilton Antony
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783659455049
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 104
Book Description
Axial fans are extensively used in industries for various applications such as mine ventilation, air conditioning system, heat exchangers, and so forth. In the view of low head produced by an axial flow impeller, drag acquires greater importance in axial flow impellers than that of centrifugal and mixed flow impellers. The axial fan performance strongly linked to aerodynamic properties of the blades, so the main objective is to analyze the fluid flow through an axial fan impeller with aerofoil cross-section. This project work presents the Modeling and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis of 2-D and 3-D flow field through an axial flow fan rotor. The aim of the project is to find the aerodynamic performance and analysis of fluid flow through an axial flow fan. The main purpose of this work is to analyze the nature of fluid flow through an axial flow fan at designed and off designed conditions using turbulence model. Here, k-turbulence model is used for CFD analysis.

CFD Calculations of S809 Aerodynamic Characteristics

Book Description
Steady-state, two-dimensional CFD calculations were made for the S809 laminar-flow, wind-turbine airfoil using the commercial code CFD-ACE. Comparisons of the computed pressure and aerodynamic coefficients were made with wind tunnel data from the Delft University 1.8 m x 1.25 m low-turbulence wind tunnel. This work highlights two areas in CFD that require further investigation and development in order to enable accurate numerical simulations of flow about current generation wind-turbine airfoils: transition prediction and turbulence modeling. The results show that the laminar-to-turbulent transition point must be modeled correctly to get accurate simulations for attached flow. Calculations also show that the standard turbulence model used in most commercial CFD codes, the k-[epsilon] model, is not appropriate at angles of attack with flow separation.
