Excerpt from Centennial of the Province of Upper Canada 1792-1892 It was arranged that the i6th july, being the date on which the proclamation was issued declaring the electoral divisions of the Province of Upper Canada, should be made the occasion of a summer meeting at the town of Niagara, the first capital, and that the centenary of the date of the actual meeting of the first Parliament at the town of Niagara on the 17th September, 1792, should be celebrated by a similar meeting at the new Provincial Parliament buildings in the city of Toronto.
