Excerpt from Catalogue of a Fine and Valuable Collection of American and Foreign Postage Stamps, and Entire United States Envelopes: Will Be Sold at Public Auction, Without Reserve by Ortgies and Co. At 845 and 847 Broadway, New York, Bet. 13th and 14th Streets, on Monday, April 27, 1885, Commencing at 7 O'clock Stamp auctions are too well established to need any recommendation from us. There are but few collectors who have not rea ed the ad van tage of this method of purchase, where. Independently 0 buying in com petition with dealers at first price, often at less than cost, they have the public guarantee of a responsible house as to the genuineness of the stamps purchased. The nu me of scott on the title page is sufficient guarantee of the accuracy of the description, and that the sale will be conducted with perfect good faith to all concerned, whether they are present in the room or make their purchases through agents. Collectors living at too great a distance from New York to attend in >eison, may have their orders executed by the auctioneers, Messrs. Cott& co, or other dealers, for a commission of 10 per cent, on amounts under $100; over $100, 5 per cent. A uniform charge of fifty cents made on any amount under $5. In reference to the method of selling at auction, we should say that each lot is sold to the highest bidder, at so much for each stamp in the lot; so, if you desire a lot of stamps which contains 10 pieces, and you wish to pay for it, you should bid 10 cents each. Always state your highest price, relying on the honor of those vou employ to make the purchase for you at the lowest possible figure. The stamps will be on exhibition at the Auction Rooms, on the day of the sale, from 10 A. M. To 5 P. M. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
