Book Description
Published by Times Square Press, New York. Humans follow certain calendars. The most common one is the Gregorian Calendar, which is a reflection of the Christian faith. It is younger than the Muslim calendar, which in turn, is younger than the Jewish calendar. All of these are considerably younger than the Ulema and the Rouhaniyiin calendar, which is the only one used by the Rouhaniyiin and Ulema. The Enlightened Masters reject the idea that the week consists of seven days. Their week consists of four days, corresponding to certain days of our week. These are the only days to use in this technique, and the other three days in our week should not be considered. The importance of these days is the relationship between the person and the hours in each day. Using the calendar of the Rouhaniyiin and Ulema, each person can find the luckiest hour of his or her week, according to the Book of Ramadosh (Rama-Dosh).

Book Description
In this provocative and wide-ranging history, Joel Beinin examines fundamental questions of ethnic identity by focusing on the Egyptian Jewish community since 1948. A complex and heterogeneous people, Egyptian Jews have become even more diverse as their diaspora continues to the present day. Central to Beinin's study is the question of how people handle multiple identities and loyalties that are dislocated and reformed by turbulent political and cultural processes. It is a question he grapples with himself, and his reflections on his experiences as an American Jew in Israel and Egypt offer a candid, personal perspective on the hazards of marginal identities.

Book Description
This is the first Who's Who that deals with the world of Jazz, Cabaret, and Entertainment. It should serve as reference for performers, promoters, publicists, booking agents, venue owners, students, schools, libraries, and music industry executives, as well as the general public. Those who read "Who's Who" books-regardless of the field-easily find one common denominator: "Who's Who" books are dry. Effort was made to avoid this tendency in the World Who's Who of Jazz, Cabaret, Music, and Entertainment. Although using fact and data-found in or supplied by reliable sources, personal feelings and material were added. To accomplish this, the world of the artist not usually seen on stage or behind the mic was probed. Candid and personal stories, anecdotes, and intimate statements were sometimes provided directly by the artist or told by friends and peers. After all, this is a world of enchantment, glamour, and fun-and so it cannot be treated like a mathematical formula In traditional "Who's Who" books, those listed are usually figures well known to the public or in their own field. In this Who's Who you will meet, on equal basis, mega stars and celebrities, as well as outstanding talent you have never heard of. This book is not based on fame and fortune alone, but also on merit. There are over two million performers in the world, it is impossible to include all of them in two volumes. This book brings to you those who are believed to be the best in the business.

Book Description
"In Imperial Muslims we have a tremendously valuable and highly readable contribution, one that has filled a serious gap in our reading of modern Indian Ocean history, and that has also added significant depth to our understanding of Muslim religious life under colonial rule... It is beautifully written, deeply textured, and eminently accessible." -- Fahad Ahmad Bishara, Die Welt des Islams "In Imperial Muslims, the author's ingenious use of British archival sources and Arabic contemporary publications make 19th and early 20th century Aden come alive in front of the readers' eyes. His assertion that at the turn of the century Britain ruled over forty percent of the global Muslim population is enough to explain why Aden is an important case study in providing a window into the social and spiritual life of a Muslim community within the British Empire." -- THANOS PETOURIS, BYS newsletter.

Book Description
Sexual desire has long played a key role in Western judgments about the value of Arab civilization. In the past, Westerners viewed the Arab world as licentious, and Western intolerance of sex led them to brand Arabs as decadent; but as Western society became more sexually open, the supposedly prudish Arabs soon became viewed as backward. Rather than focusing exclusively on how these views developed in the West, in Desiring Arabs Joseph A. Massad reveals the history of how Arabs represented their own sexual desires. To this aim, he assembles a massive and diverse compendium of Arabic writing from the nineteenth century to the present in order to chart the changes in Arab sexual attitudes and their links to Arab notions of cultural heritage and civilization. A work of impressive scope and erudition, Massad’s chronicle of both the history and modern permutations of the debate over representations of sexual desires and practices in the Arab world is a crucial addition to our understanding of a frequently oversimplified and vilified culture. “A pioneering work on a very timely yet frustratingly neglected topic. . . . I know of no other study that can even begin to compare with the detail and scope of [this] work.”—Khaled El-Rouayheb, Middle East Report “In Desiring Arabs, [Edward] Said’s disciple Joseph A. Massad corroborates his mentor’s thesis that orientalist writing was racist and dehumanizing. . . . [Massad] brilliantly goes on to trace the legacy of this racist, internalized, orientalist discourse up to the present.”—Financial Times

Book Description
This book is a contrastive analysis of Arabsâ (TM) errors in English pronunciation regarding segmentalsâ "consonants, consonant clusters, and vowelsâ "and suprasegmentalsâ "main word stress. It also explains the main interlingual reasons behind these errors, and presents some teaching suggestions for surmounting them. The findings show that the subjects substitute their own Arabic sounds for unfamiliar English ones, producing incorrect English sounds. In addition, they apply Arabic main word stress rules instead of English ones, producing incorrect English stress patterns. The book also shows that English sounds and stress patterns that are both different and more marked than corresponding Arabic ones caused learning difficulties for the subjects.
