Book Description
Why, with so much focus on organizational change, is there so little successful change? Is it the result of poor planning? The economy? Foreign competition? The fundamental reason is that most corporations fail to understand basic laws of structure that determine a business's success or failure. Often managers attempt to impose change on a weak foundation. Robert Fritz examines the underlying structures that support business strategy, with the insight that structure gives rise to behavior. Once they understand these structural forces, managers can realize their company's goals by applying the right principles. Fritz outlines the basic laws that determine a corporation's success or failure. He describes the difference between structural advancement and structural oscillation, and shows how, if an organization is poorly structured, success in one department can actually cause difficulties in another - increased sales can strain manufacturing capacity; reinvestment can lead to declining market performance. Corporate Tides reveals techniques that can be used at all levels of an organization, from project teams to senior groups doing strategic planning, and demonstrates how to create consistency throughout the organization.

Book Description
A TIME Magazine Best Book of 2022 “I loved it.” —Miranda Cowley Heller, author of The Paper Palace "Brilliant, elegant, and unsparing." —Emma Cline "Irresistible... I read it in an afternoon but I'll be thinking about it for a long time." —Douglas Stuart, author of Young Mungo From an astounding new voice in Canadian literature comes an intoxicating, compact novel about a woman who walks out of her life and washes up in a seaside town After a sudden, devastating loss, Mara flees her family and ends up adrift in a wealthy seaside town with a dead cellphone and barely any money. Mired in her grief, Mara detaches from the outside world and spends her days of self-imposed exile scrounging for food and swimming in the night ocean. In her state of emotional extremis, the sea at the town's edge is rendered bleak, luminous, implacable. As her money runs out and tourist season comes to a close, Mara finds a job at the local wine store. There, she meets Simon, the shop's soft-spoken, lonely owner. Confronted with the possibility of connection with Simon and the slow return of her desires and appetites, the reasons for her flight begin to emerge. Reminiscent of works by Rachel Cusk, Jenny Offill, and Sheila Heti, Tides is a spare, visceral debut novel about the nature of selfhood, intimacy, and the private narratives that shape our lives. A shattering and unforgettable debut.

Book Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author of Tidelands—the “searing portrait of a woman that resonates across the ages” (People)—returns with an evocative historical novel tracking the rise of the Tidelands family in London, Venice, and New England. Midsummer Eve 1670. Two unexpected visitors arrive at a shabby warehouse on the south side of the River Thames. The first is a wealthy nobleman seeking the lover he deserted twenty-one years earlier. Now James Avery has everything to offer: a fortune, a title, and the favor of the newly restored King Charles II. He believes that the warehouse’s poor owner Alinor has the one thing he cannot buy—his son and heir. The second visitor is a beautiful widow from Venice in deepest mourning. She claims Alinor as her mother-in-law and tells her of the death of Rob—Alinor’s son—drowned in the dark tides of the Venice lagoon. Meanwhile, Alinor’s brother Ned, in faraway New England, is making a life for himself between in the narrowing space between the jarring worlds of the English newcomers and the American Indians as they move towards inevitable war. Alinor writes to him that she knows—without doubt—that her son is alive and the widow is an imposter. But how can she prove it? Set in the poverty and glamour of Restoration London, in the golden streets of Venice, and on the tensely contested frontier of early America, this is a novel of greed and desire: for love, for wealth, for a child, and for home.

Book Description
Surfers, sailors, and anyone who loves the ocean will enjoy this visual exploration of the world's seas along its shores, including rip tides, swells, waves, and tsunamis. Tide is the vertical motion of water, something so subtle it is impossible to see with the naked eye. Inspired by his travels around the world's coastline in a camper van with his young family, William Thomson captures the cycles of the sea's movement, and intersperses his adventures surfing the waves and charting the tides. Throughout Tides and the Ocean are his graphic renderings of unusual tidal maps, as well as other forms of water movement, including rip, rapids, swell, stream, tide, wave, whirlpool, and tsunami. Tides and the Ocean explains how the tides surge when the moon and sun align with the earth; how ocean streams alternate direction every six hours (which is invaluable information for kayakers, paddle boarders, and fishermen); why skyscraper-sized tsunamis occur frequently in an Alaskan Bay; and the most deadly beach orientation for rip currents. Also emphasized throughout is the importance of keeping the world's oceans healthy and full of life. Published in time for beach travel, this large-format hardcover is ideal for anyone who knows and loves the sea, and who wants to understand, discover, surf, or sail it better.

Book Description
TIDES.Network's white paper detailing an open-source generic protocol for pooling assets for mutual insurance, applied to a peer-to-peer health insurance network. v0.8 is an archived white paper, originally published in early 2018, and now made available in ebook format. ABSTRACT: Health insurance today is extremely centralized and has lost cost-effectiveness for most consumers. The distortions caused by asymmetric information, incentive misalignments, and regulatory and political overload have caused an ongoing dramatic increase in premiums, while reducing the quality of coverage. Moreover, traditional insurance companies’ incentives are diametrically opposed to those of its customers, making these problems intractable. Tides is a peer-to-peer insurance network that uses a decentralized system of functionaries to completely disintermediate the insurance “company”. In Tides’ peer-to-peer health insurance model, the “insurance company” is disintermediated and self-organizing pools of people set their own governance on all aspects of their insurance, such as coverage, limits, terms, etc., utilizing a decentralized network of actuaries, underwriters and claims processors. Thus, all critical functions in a traditional insurance “company” become disaggregated and distributed across a decentralized network. Built-in incentive structures keep all functionaries honest and efficient. Moreover, members are thoroughly incentivized to exercise judgment in consumption of healthcare resources, as any paid but unspent premiums may be distributed back to members, based on the pool contract terms. Anyone can run a peer-to-peer insurance pool as long as they also run a compliance module to keep compliant with the laws that govern mutual insurances in their jurisdiction. This model of insurance eliminates asymmetric information and incentive problems that have plagued health insurance for decades. Tides will redefine insurance to once again become an efficient societal safety net. Let’s make health insurance open, transparent, and decentralized. ABOUT TIDES.NETWORK: Creators of the TIDES.Network Protocol have the perfect balance of Life Sciences, Deep Technical knowledge and Crypto experience. Together, Dr. Chandra Duggirala, M.D., George Burke, and Manoj Duggirala previously founded and ran a hyper-personalized digital nutritionist/nutrition delivery startup that integrated subscribers’ digital health analytics (TryFuel.com) with DNA and other biomarkers to deliver hyper-personalized meals nationwide. They took the concept from idea through successful product development, fundraising, and market execution, building a 7-figure annual run rate (ARR) company in less than 1 year. The team envisioned the TIDES project during 2018. Together, they have developed several blockchain initiatives and proofs-of-concept that reenvision Biotech R&D, Intellectual Property rights, Insurance, Cryptoeconomics, Crowdfunding, and Digital Asset Trading/Exchange.

Book Description
Finally, someone has written a comprehensive, easily readable explanation of the tides on earth that is both simple enough for students and solid enough for their professors. Step by step, by analogy and illustration, Beyond the Moon describes how the cyclical motion of the near solar system is impressed upon the earth's oceans, and how the hydraulics over the continental shelf and the geography of the coastline orchestrate this rhythm into the bewildering variety of tide patterns seen around the globe. This volume demystifies the complexity of the tides by systematically examining its many constituents and demonstrates that: OC Nature is, at once, awesome in complexity and beautiful in simplicity.OCO"
