Book Description
Bury My Clothes is a meditation on violence, race, and the place in art at which they intersect. Art—specifically in oppressed communities—is about survival, Roger Bonair-Agard asserts, and establishing personhood in a world that says you have none. Through poetry, we transform both the world of art and the world itself. Roger Bonair-Agard is a Cave Canem fellow, two-time National Poetry Slam Champion, and author of Tarnish and Masquerade and Gully. He has appeared three times on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and is Co-founder and Artistic Director of the LouderARTS Project in New York.

"This is a personal matter. Someone killed my brother. I don't like that. If the police can't take care of it, then I'll bury my own dead." Nick English meant every word, but his efforts to find his brother's killer started a chain reaction of murder and violence that would nearly end his own life. Here is a story of organized blackmail punctuated by sudden and gruesome murder. Written with the punch and speed of a rivet gun, I'll Bury My Dead confirms James Hadley Chase's reputation as a leading writer of all-action, edge-of-your-seat thrillers that demand to be read in a single sitting.

Book Description
A dark comedy about four women coming together to heal the damage their husbands have done––and hide their bodies once they’ve killed them When Sally kills her husband with a cast-iron skillet, she’s more fearful of losing her kids than of disposing of a fresh corpse. That just wouldn’t be fair—not after twenty years of marriage to a truly terrible man. But Sally isn’t the only woman in town reaching the brink. Soon, Sally finds herself leading an extremely unusual self-help group, and among them there are four bodies to hide. Can they all figure out the perfect way to bury their husbands . . . and get away with it? First to join is former nurse, Ruth, who met her husband as a single mom. Now her son is grown and her husband’s violence builds by the day until an attack on the stairs leads to a fatal accident—for him. A few doors down, Samira’s last straw comes when she discovers her husband is planning a campaign of violence against her eldest daughter, who has just come out. Janey, Sally’s best friend, has just had her first child at forty-two. Sleep-deprived Janey needs a hero to slay the monster in the fairy tales she whispers to her daughter each night . . . and as her husband’s violence escalates, it might just be her. Together, fueled by righteous anger but tempered by a moral core, the four women must help each other work out a plan to get rid of their husbands for good. Along the way, Sally, Ruth, Samira and Janey rediscover old joys and embark on new passions in work, education, and life. Friendship and laughter really are the best medicine—and so is getting away with murder.

Book Description
Contains the author's recollections of the early settlement and development of Lansing, Michigan, particularly during the late 1840s and early 1850s. Mevis's family moved there (1847) as it was being laid out as the future state capitol. Much of Pioneer Recollections is devoted to tales and anecdotes about pioneer life in Lansing and elsewhere. As a teenager, Mevis was a companion of members of the Okemos tribe of Indians, and he describes their mode of hunting deer and a small, dug-out canoe that the chief gave him. In addition to farm chores, serving as town crier, and working as a "printer's devil" at the local newspaper, Mevis sold refreshments at a tent show (McFarland's Pavilion Theater) and engaged in many entrepreneurial activities, which leads him to reminisce about Lansing's first businessmen. He also enjoyed sleigh rides, dancing parties, corn husking, logging bees, holiday celebrations, and many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, searching for snakes, making maple sugar, and gathering greens, fruits, and wildflowers. Mevis includes a list of Lansing's early inhabitants, with photographs of some of the men.
