Book Description
In the vein of When You Trap a Tiger and Shouting at the Rain, this is the story of the journey one girl undertakes to find herself. After Breda Moriarity gets caught stealing one too many times, Breda's mom sends her to Ireland, a place she has never been, to live with the grandfather she has never met. While Breda doesn’t want to be in this strange land, she finally gets to meet Granda, her mom’s father. He’s a grumpy farmer who is also a seanchaí, a traditional Gaelic storyteller. But the most important story is the one nobody will talk about: what happened to her absent father. If nothing else this summer, Breda is determined to figure out the truth about her family’s history—and herself. This powerfully poignant middle grade novel, the first from award-winning author Jessie Ann Foley, asks questions about estranged relationships, immigration, and family secrets.

Book Description
The Battle of Sicily is the story of Germany's "Dunkirk"--a successful evacuation that allowed 40,000 troops to escape to Italy, where they later fought the Allies to a bloody stalemate. The authors recount the campaign from the Axis strategy point of view--something no English-language book has ever done--and argue persuasively that the Allies wasted a chance for a total victory that might have foreshortened the war. Black-and-white inserts.

Book Description
As the Third Reich headed for destruction, German ingenuity in the naval field turned to unconventional weapons – midget submarines, radio-controlled explosive boats, and various forms of underwater sabotage. This is one of the last un-chronicled areas of World War II naval history and this well-known author describes how, facing overwhelming odds, German sailors – most of them volunteers – mounted attacks that were little better than suicide missions. Judged by their effect on the Allied advance, their successes were slight, but there seems to have been no collapse of morale and the indomitable bravery of those involved makes riveting reading. Pieced together from fragmentary sources, this largely untold story uncovers some of the most desperate operations of the War.

Brigadier James Hargest was a decorated New Zealand officer who served during World War I and II. Having fought in the bloody battles of the Invasion of Crete, he went on to lead the 5th Brigade in the Western Desert during Operation Crusader but was captured soon into the campaign. Never one to take a defeat lying down Hargest, determined to escape his Italian Prisoner of War camp “Campo 12”, this journey and its adventures are recounted here in this book of his journey to Switzerland and freedom. Throwing himself back into the fray immediately he served on staff during the invasion of Normandy, but was killed by shellfire in August 1944. As one of only three men known to British Military Intelligence to have successfully escaped an Italian PoW camp, Hargest was awarded a second bar to his DSO and was later appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
