Excerpt from Bolingbroke, a Historical Study: And Voltaire in England The Essays comprised in this volume were originally contributed to the 'Quarterly Review, ' and to the 'Cornhill Magazine, ' and the Author has to thank Mr. Murray for permission to reprint the papers on Bolingbroke, and Messrs. Smith and Elder for permission to reprint the papers on Voltaire in England. Both series of Essays have been carefully revised; to both series, but particularly to the second, considerable additions have been made.
