Book Description
Excerpt from The Biography of Eld: Barton Warren Stone The author of the following work, was induced to undertake it, by the urgent solicitations of the relatives and friends of Elder Stone. Deeply sensible of his incompetency for so great a work, nothing but deference for the opinion of his friends, and a sense of duty to his venerated Father in the gospel, could have disposed him to attempt it. Such as it is, it is now with great diffidence, offered to the public. The writer is fully aware of its many imperfections both in style and arrangement. Some of these, at least, might have been corrected, had he lived nearer the printer, and had had more time to bestow upon the work. For these imperfections, under the circumstances, his friends, and the candid reader, will make due allowance. But from the whole tribe of snarling critics he neither hopes, nor fears any thing. If they shall show him his errors, he will endeavor to correct them. He aspires only to be a follower of Jesus - a doer of good, that he may hear the plaudit of his Master at last: "Well done, good and faithful servant." As to the sources whence he has derived his facts and documents, they are of the most unquestionable character; as they have been collected from authentic writings, or living witnesses. The writer believes that B. W. Stone, the much abused and persecuted B. W. Stone, was one of the greatest, and most consistent Reformers, that has appeared in any age since the Apostacy - And that his name will gather new accessions of glory, as time rolls on. Blood, Fire, Death
Author: Ika Johannesson
Publisher: Feral House
ISBN: 1627311041
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 394
Book Description
In the early 1990s, Swedish death metal revolutionized the international music scene. Suddenly, the mild-mannered Scandinavian country found itself at the forefront of a new movement with worldwide impact thanks to bands such as Entombed, Dismember, and At the Gates. The birth of black metal drove the culture to even greater extremes, featuring a rawer, darker sound and non-ironic death-worship. Soon churches in both Norway and Sweden were aflame, and be- fore long Satanism emerged as more than just an image. But how did it all start? Why did Sweden become a hotbed for such aggressive, nihilistic music? And who are the people and bands that brought it all about? Blood, Fire, Death: A Swedish Metal Story recounts the evolution of the genre from the massive amplifier walls of 1970s rock, through the church-burning Satanic 1990s, to the diverse and paradoxical manifestations of the scene today. This book focuses on the phenomena that have propelled the scene forward in an evolution that has not only been musical, but aesthetic and ideological as well. This is a story about grotesque logos and icons that invoke death and darkness, but also a story of dedication, friendship, community, and a profound love for music.

Macbeth (Including The Biography of the Infamous Author)
Author: William Shakespeare
Publisher: e-artnow
ISBN: 8027223709
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 575
Book Description
"Macbeth" is a play by William Shakespeare probably written between 1603 and 1607 and first published in 1623. The work tells the story of a brave Scottish general named Macbeth who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia, and he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler as he is forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of arrogance, madness, and death. "Life of William Shakespeare" is a biography of William Shakespeare by the eminent critic Sidney Lee. This book was one of the first major biographies of the Bard of Avon. It was published in 1898, based on the article contributed to the Dictionary of National Biography. William Shakespeare (1564 – 1616) was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, the authorship of some of which is uncertain. Sir Sidney Lee (1859 – 1926) was an English biographer and critic. He was a lifelong scholar and enthusiast of Shakespeare. His article on Shakespeare in the fifty-first volume of the Dictionary of National Biography formed the basis of his Life of William Shakespeare. This full-length life is often credited as the first modern biography of the poet.
