Book Description
A compelling account of the Hawaiian monarchy from 1810-1893, detailing the many different characters who ruled the kingdom. It examines the external influences that contributed to the end of their rule, whilst also looking at Hawaiian culture and the impact that western influences, such as Christianity, had on the rulers. Importantly it explores the monarch's own characters, how they ruled, how they lost the throne and the influences their descendants still have today in Hawaii.

Book Description
History of Keoua Kalanikupuapa-i-kalani-nui, Father of Hawaiian Kings is a genealogical history by Elizabeth Kekaʻaniau La‘anui Pratt. Written towards the end of Pratt’s life, the book was intended as a tribute to her family’s history and influence in Hawaii. Raised as a member of the House of Keōua Nui, she was closely related to the first rulers of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Engaging with traditions and stories from before the arrival of Protestant missionaries in the islands, Pratt provides a link to the past, before Christianity and written language usurped the oral tradition of her people. “Comely of person and gracious to all he met, Keoua as he verged toward manhood became an attractive personage. While yet awaiting the fulfillment of the plighted troth of his childhood, rumors of events in Maui royal circles were wafted across he waters of Alenuihaha channel which stirred his ambition.” Born the son of High Chief Keeaumoku Nui, Keoua was known for his sacred power, or kapu, of determining the safety and danger of his people by observing the formation of rain clouds. With his wisdom and leadership, he proved an excellent role model for his son Kamehameha I, the first ruler of the Hawaiian Kingdom who unified the islands in 1795. Detailed and enriched with Elizabeth’s personal relation to the figures she describes, the History of Keoua Kalanikupuapa-i-kalani-nui, Father of Hawaiian Kings is an essential study of one of Hawaii’s most important leaders. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Elizabeth Kekaʻaniau La‘anui Pratt’s History of Keoua Kalanikupuapa-i-kalani-nui, Father of Hawaiian Kings is a classic work of Hawaiian literature reimagined for modern readers.

Book Description
During early 3rd century, the Hawaiians settled in the islands after navigating the oceans using the stars and the birds as guide. They arrived and occupied the islands created by formation of volcanoes. Polynesians from the Marquesas Islands whose settlement were 2000 miles from south of Hawaii, sailed and voyaged day and night upon reaching the islands in groups of waka. They saw that the Islands were good for colonization with no wild lives, mosquitoes and no diseases. They began planting, fishing and hunting in the Islands, after which they built homes and shelter. The settlers having enough resources established their cultures and societal laws on the islands, by the time the settlers had established a civilized tribe, some tribes began eyeing the islands and by 1200 AD, Tahitian chiefs, priests and warriors invaded the islands under the leadership of a priest known as Paao. The invaders created a caste based social system and warrior based society known as the Kapu system. This Kapu based system connected the upper ruling chiefs known as Alii to the gods and through marriages, adoption and war, their powers and authorities grew stronger throughout the islands. Through their mana, each chief had his own island to control, soon they were territorial wars. The natives lived their lives in peace and harmony until the arrival of Americans and Europeans, the foreigners brought with them, series of diseases and infections ranking from Smallpox to leprosy to different and unknown diseases which begins killing the natives, but their next plot would forever change the history of Hawaii.
