Book Description
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used in solution-state and solid-state experiments on 8 asphalt cements. Using a variety of chemical and solution-state NMR spectroscopic techniques, data were obtained about the amounts of aromatic carbon in an average molecule of asphalt sample, how the carbon is arranged in terms of size of the average aromatic system and the extent of substitution. By using solid-state NMR spectroscopic techniques, the structure of asphaltic cements was probed on a small-distance scale. Difference in molecular mobility were found among the asphalts studied. Changes in molecular mobility after laboratory oxidative aging were found to be small. The implications of these data with regard to the 'micellar model' of asphalt are discussed. The research results' potential impact on understanding asphalt cement properties is explored.

Book Description
Basic theory, applications, and recent trends in analytical techniques used in crude oil and related products analysis This book covers the application of different spectroscopic methods to characterize crude oil and related products. Its topics are presented in a pedagogical manner so that those new to the subject can better understand the content. The book begins by familiarizing the reader with the rheological characterization of crude oil and related products. Subsequent chapters are directed towards the current trends of different spectroscopic methods for the characterization of crude oil. Analytical Characterization Methods for Crude Oil and Related Products features chapters on: optical interrogation of petroleum asphaltenes (myths and reality); ESR characterization of organic free radicals in petroleum products; high-field, pulsed, and double resonance studies of crude oils and their derivatives; NMR spectroscopy in bitumen characterization; applications of Raman spectroscopy in crude oil and bitumen characterization; and more. Uses a bottom-up approach—starting from the basic theory of the technique followed by its applications and recent trends in crude oil analysis Includes informative content so as to take a technician to the level of using a particular analytical method Covers relevany information so as to enable a manager in the industry to make purchasing decisions Analytical Characterization Methods for Crude Oil and Related Products is aimed at researchers in academia as well as technicians and developers of new analytical methods in the oil industry and related areas. It will also be of interest to professionals, scientists, and graduate students in analytical sciences dealing with oil and environmental analysis.

Book Description
Functional Pavement Design is a collections of 186 papers from 27 different countries, which were presented at the 4th Chinese-European Workshops (CEW) on Functional Pavement Design (Delft, the Netherlands, 29 June-1 July 2016). The focus of the CEW series is on field tests, laboratory test methods and advanced analysis techniques, and cover analysis, material development and production, experimental characterization, design and construction of pavements. The main areas covered by the book include: - Flexible pavements - Pavement and bitumen - Pavement performance and LCCA - Pavement structures - Pavements and environment - Pavements and innovation - Rigid pavements - Safety - Traffic engineering Functional Pavement Design is for contributing to the establishment of a new generation of pavement design methodologies in which rational mechanics principles, advanced constitutive models and advanced material characterization techniques shall constitute the backbone of the design process. The book will be much of interest to professionals and academics in pavement engineering and related disciplines.
