Book Description
In 1974 Linda Quiring moved to Salt Spring Island, British Columbia to ‘find’ herself. Salt Spring Island was one of the centers for the counter-culture movement in Canada; home to hippies and back-to-the-landers. Soon, Linda encountered an enlightened man, Sydney Banks, and became his first student. Together they wrote Island of Knowledge under Linda’s authorship, detailing Syd’s teachings and the profound changes those listening experienced in their lives, health and relationships. Sydney Banks would ultimately become renowned for his revelation of The Three Principles inherent in those teachings. Linda and Syd remained friends until his passing in 2009. Before his death, Syd approached Linda about the possibility of getting Island of Knowledge republished. However, embarrassed by the ‘hippy’ jargon of the 1970’s, Syd asked that references to the times be changed. In deciding what should be left in, what changed, and what taken out, Linda and her publisher realized the book was in fact an important historical account of an amazing time and place and that to tamper with the integrity of the book would be a great disservice, thus it is republished exactly as is.

Book Description
Encounters with an Enlightened Man reveals Linda Quiring's experience in a mental institution where she was told she would need to be on medication and receive periodic shock treatments for the rest of her life. Soon, her personal spiritual journey led her and her husband Bill to move to Saltspring Island in early 1974. Her search for that 'guru who appears the moment a student is ready' led to the door of Sydney Banks, who had also just moved to the Island after having an enlightenment experience. At their first fortuitous meeting, Syd articulated a desire to write about his very recent experience, and suggested that Linda, an avid reader and writer, work with him. After listening to Syd she became 'cured' without any further medication or treatments. The next year saw more students appear, and within five years, hundreds of students had moved to the Island to follow this quiet man and his startling revelations into the nature of life. With Island of Knowledge selling thousands of books, and another on the way, Syd's path led to the wider world, where he would write books, work with psychologists and other professionals and disseminate his teachings. Linda's journey however, led to settling into a normal life on a small farm, where she and Bill raised their son Gary, made artisan soaps for a living, and kept chickens and bees. A heartfelt desire to write, and surprised by the outflow of love and interest in those times, Linda was encouraged to write about "The Early Days." Still friends after four decades with other very early students, she included their stories as well, making for an enthralling look into the beginnings of a now worldwide movement in higher consciousness as experienced and taught by Sydney Banks. About the Author Linda Quiring and her husband Bill live on a small farm on Saltspring Island, British Columbia where they grow heritage apples and keep bees. Recently retired after 35 years making Artisan soaps and body care products, Linda is the author of Island of Knowledge, Beyond Beliefs: The Lost Teachings of Sydney Banks, Encounters with an Enlightened Man: The Early Years with Sydney Banks, and continues to write.

Book Description
What if peace of mind, beautiful feelings, little or no stress, wonderful, healthy relationships and greater effectiveness, were right at your fingertips, and you held the key but didn't realize it or didn't know how to use it? That is what "Somebody Should Have Told Us!" This book is about how we all have a state of perfect mental health and wisdom inside us that can only be covered up by our own thinking, and how our use of our power of thought creates the "reality" we see, out of which we then think, feel and act. Here are ten simple but profound truths for living well, arising from three spiritual facts that, once grasped or truly realized, can transform one's life. This book has the ability to spawn insights that change the lives of those who come to understand the simple, yet profound wisdom contained in this book. In fact, it already has. This book is the essence of self-help, in that it points people inside themselves for all answers. It shows people how to access their own essence whenever they need to. It shows people how they create their experience of life moment to moment. The book is written in an easy-to-understand manner with many stories of how people's lives have changed. When we were growing up nobody told us what this book points to, but somebody should have told us! And it's never too late. Book Description
E. H. Gombrich's Little History of the World, though written in 1935, has become one of the treasures of historical writing since its first publication in English in 2005. The Yale edition alone has now sold over half a million copies, and the book is available worldwide in almost thirty languages. Gombrich was of course the best-known art historian of his time, and his text suggests illustrations on every page. This illustrated edition of the Little History brings together the pellucid humanity of his narrative with the images that may well have been in his mind's eye as he wrote the book. The two hundred illustrations—most of them in full color—are not simple embellishments, though they are beautiful. They emerge from the text, enrich the author's intention, and deepen the pleasure of reading this remarkable work. For this edition the text is reset in a spacious format, flowing around illustrations that range from paintings to line drawings, emblems, motifs, and symbols. The book incorporates freshly drawn maps, a revised preface, and a new index. Blending high-grade design, fine paper, and classic binding, this is both a sumptuous gift book and an enhanced edition of a timeless account of human history.

Book Description
An inspirational collection of enlightening stories, quotes, and teachings to help you become a better you. Buddhism is all about training the mind, and boot camp is an ideal training method for this generation’s short attention span. The chapters in this book are a collection of eight years’ worth of letters and journal entries, which is why each chapter is only a page long and can be read in any order. The stories, inspirational quotes, and teachings offer mindfulness-enhancing techniques to which anyone can relate. You don’t need to be a Buddhist to find this book motivational. As the Dalai Lama says, “Don’t try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.” Whether it’s Mother Teresa’s acts of charity, Gandhi's perseverance, or your aunt Betty’s calm demeanor, it doesn’t matter who inspires you, so long as you’re motivated to be better today than you were yesterday. Regardless or religion or geographical region, race, ethnicity, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, flexibility, or vulnerability, if you do good, you feel good, and if you do bad, you feel bad. If you agree that Buddhism isn’t just about meditating, but also about rolling up your sleeves and relieving some of the suffering in the world, then you are ready to be a soldier of peace in the army of love; welcome to Buddhist Boot Camp!

Book Description
Perfect Misfortune and the four previous editions have been about healing and about emotional and physical recovery in the face of personal crisis and loss. They've each been about discovery, recovering a piece of childhood, and finding part of ourselves we've lost bouncing over the speed bumps of life. Perfect Misfortune is about our spiritual nature and the healing power of our spiritual nature. The book is meant for anyone with an illness or disease, physical or mental condition, who is struggling. This book is about three principles - Mind, Thought and Consciousness - discovered originally through an insight by Sydney Banks. These three principles describe our spiritual nature in a way that's healing. Perfect Misfortune is Allan Flood's continuing, deepening, ever-evolving journey to understand The Three Principles, the good disguised in our worst misfortunes, the learning that comes from them and how the wisdom we acquire in crisis can help us find the best in ourselves and others. This edition is a "coming home" story. It has fresh insights and humbling discoveries he has made about life and healing over the last five years as he has sought deeper and deeper peace-of-mind. This book is intended to give comfort and hope to those in life-changing circumstances. The journey has occasionally been harrowing as his ego trips (no pun intended) over deeply held beliefs and reactions but it's always been enriching. The path towards Truth and healing becomes more beautiful with time. This fifth edition reflects his understanding of Sydney Banks' insights, the power of The Three Principles, and shares what he has discovered over the last five years that is healing. Allan is excited and relieved to simplify the journey, to bring this edition to life and contribute to your healing as well as his own. So, as he has said in earlier editions of Perfect Misfortune, he invites you to grab the tiger's tail as he shares with you the greatest adventure of his life and what could be the beginning of the greatest adventure of yours as well. About the Author Allan Flood, author of Perfect Misfortune and Management by Inspiration, lives in Bend, Oregon. His unique and practical perspective of how to find peace and hope in the face of upsetting personal circumstances comes from living with and coming to peace with multiple sclerosis for 35 years. Allan has extensive business and non-profit experience and has seen how important it is to understand where the human experience comes from. With humor and personal warmth, Allan shares with you his insights and how they can improve your health and well-being.
