Book Description
The grammar of negative polarity items is one of the challenges for linguistic theory. NPIs cross-cut all traditional categories in grammar and semantics, yet their distribution is by no means arbitrary. Theories of NPI licensing have been proposed in terms of syntax, semantics, and pragmatics - each with its own merits and problems. The volume comprises state-of-the-art studies and suggests an interpolation approach to NPI licensing.

Book Description
From 1776, when Citizen Tom Paine declared, "The birthday of a new world is at hand," America was unique in world history. A nation suffused with the spirit of explorers, constantly replenished by immigrants, and informed by a continual influx of foreign ideas, it was the world's first truly cosmopolitan civilization. In Beyond the Revolution, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian William H. Goetzmann tells the story of America's greatest thinkers and creators, from Paine and Jefferson to Melville and William James, showing how they built upon and battled one another's ideas in the critical years between 1776 and 1900. An unprecedented work of intellectual history by a master historian, this book will be essential reading for anyone interested in the origins of our national culture.

Book Description
“What a wonderful idea for an adventure! Absolutely inspired, timely, and important.” —Alistair Humphreys, National Geographic Adventurer of the Year and author of The Doorstep Mile and Around the World by Bike Outdoor educator and field researcher Sara Dykman made history when she became the first person to bicycle alongside monarch butterflies on their storied annual migration—a round-trip adventure that included three countries and more than 10,000 miles. Equally remarkable, she did it solo, on a bike cobbled together from used parts. Her panniers were recycled buckets. In Bicycling with Butterflies, Dykman recounts her incredible journey and the dramatic ups and downs of the nearly nine-month odyssey. We’re beside her as she navigates unmapped roads in foreign countries, checks roadside milkweed for monarch eggs, and shares her passion with eager schoolchildren, skeptical bar patrons, and unimpressed border officials. We also meet some of the ardent monarch stewards who supported her efforts, from citizen scientists and researchers to farmers and high-rise city dwellers. With both humor and humility, Dykman offers a compelling story, confirming the urgency of saving the threatened monarch migration—and the other threatened systems of nature that affect the survival of us all.

Book Description
This deeply personal memoir chronicles the profound journey of a family navigating life with neurodiverse children. It all began with a fated encounter between the narrator and Emily, forging a powerful bond despite her private struggles with bipolar disorder and ADHD. Their love flourished into marriage and raising three neurodivergent sons - Samuel with ADHD tendencies, Lionel born with bipolar disorder, and gentle Richard later diagnosed with autism and schizophrenia. The parents meet each challenge with patience, compassion and a growing devotion to nurturing their children's unique strengths rather than focusing on perceived deficiencies. They learn to embrace neurodiversity, not as disability but as natural variation expressing innate abilities society fails to make space for. As the boys blossom in supportive environments tailored to their needs, new passions arise within the parents for advocating greater inclusion, dismantling stigma and championing neurodivergent voices. At the story's heart shines the remarkable resilience of a family weathering storms together with empathy, humor and wisdom. Their tapestry illustrates how facing adversity united forging unbreakable bonds. Differences integrate into harmonious wholes when valued intrinsically. Lives restricted by rigid societal standards become empowered by unveiling and nurturing diverse innate potentials. As generations expand, seeds of advocacy take root inspiring work and creating positive change. The sons grow into purpose-driven individuals uplifting others on parallel journeys. Their own children continue shining lights of understanding into shadows of prejudice. Throughout all seasons of both struggle and triumph, the family remains anchored in unconditional love and acceptance of each member's distinctive spirit. This profoundly moving memoir reminds us no single narrative defines a human life's complexity. Progress arises when diverse perspectives connect cooperatively, not combatively. Though imperfect, with compassion this family cultivates fulfilling lives by embracing neurodiversity's endless beauty. Their resilience offers hope that even in the darkest storms, the light within can illuminate new paths forward. This book imparts timeless wisdom and encouragement for any family navigating diverse abilities and complex minds with grace.

Book Description
Had Mason Chase gone to sleep that night he might be dead. The fact that he didn't might make him wish he was dead. With his family gruesomely murdered around him in their comfortable suburban home, he is arrested, charged and convicted of a crime he claims he did not commit. In fact there is evidence - strong evidence- to suggest that Mason's claims of innocence are in fact true. But a Texas jury decides against him, finding him guilty and sentences him to death by lethal injection. For close to a decade and a half, Mason sits on Texas death row while Rob Gilmore, his lawyer, and others work to get him set free. At times, mason comes within hours of his death. Not until Rob is killed in a traffic accident does the lawyer's wife discover Rob's secret - a secret that will aide in releasing Mason Chase of incarceration and freeing him from the looming death sentence that crowds him like an angry shadow. Rob's wife, a lawyer for the county, also discovers her own boss' culpability in the botched conviction. She turns to the aid of a Houston law firm, who specialize in cases like Mason's. The evidence is presented to a U.S. Federal Judge who frees Mason and gets him removed from prison and away from the horror of death row. Months pass, Mason Chase decides to sue the county, its DA, lead investigator and criminal lab for damages and restitution for his wrongful conviction. Carol Gilmore, Rob's wife, now in private practice, leads the case and wins a huge multi-million dollar settlement for Mason, only to have the U.S. Supreme Court eventually rule against him. Mason is left with nothing. Again a victim. After a few months, three justices who sit on the highest bench in the land disappear. (They happen to be the three that were the lead advocates that Mason's case was without merit.) There are no leads. There is no evidence. There is nothing to go on. The FBI is baffled until a freak traffic incident on a lonely Texas highway, just north of the Mexican border leads authorities to believe that the killer of the three Supreme Court justices is residing just on the other side of the Rio Grande. A former Texas Ranger, Lucky Drake, is asked to snoop around in the desert of Northern Mexico, to see if he can "unofficially" sniff out anything like clues to the deaths of the three. He, in fact, uncovers the real killer: Jimmy McDermit, a man who has long been suspected as being the actual killer of the Chase family. But Lucky also discovers, that Jimmy seems to be taking is directions from a doctor in a small Mexican village. As he gets closer to the two, who are deep in conversation, Lucky discovers his camera lens is focused on, not a doctor, but Mason Chase. We have come full circle.
