Excerpt from Beckert's Autumn List of Bulbs: Bulbs and Seeds for All Sowing; Fall, 1987 Hyacinths, Pot Culture. Plant in sandy loam in 5-inch pots. Insert firmly in the soil, covering the bulb to the tip; after watering well, set them in a cool, dark place, and leave them there until the roots become well established, when they can be brought to the light. Hyacinths, Culture in Glass. Fill the glasses until the base of the bulb touches the water; set away in a cool, dark place, and as the water evaporates replenish it. Change the water every fortnight, and when the roots extend to the bottom of the glass, or nearly so, bring them to the light in a cool room. Tulips. Culture, either out or indoors is about the same as for hyacinths; in bedding, plant them about 6 inches apart. All single varieties force readily. Crocus.
