Book Description
This book is composed to assist new and upcoming multi- discipline Project Engineers and Managers in obtaining the basic and necessary knowledge which is required in order to become successful and valuable members of a project team. This book will give an insight to engineering students and professionals on how different engineering disciplines are interrelated in a multi-discipline environment. Together we shall look at Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects. EPC projects are very much the norm in the present day engineering contracting industry for capital projects of all types and sizes. Normally, engineers graduate from engineering schools and universities as single discipline engineers. After graduation, they will take up a job based on their particular engineering discipline and then progress in their career. Project Engineers / Engineering Managers combine the different disciplines into a frame work which is often referred to as multi-discipline Project Engineering. Multi-discipline project engineering is a special skill where the engineer has to have basic knowledge of all discipline deliverables. One must know the criticality of the document and how long it should take to get reviewed / commented by other discipline. Multi-discipline project engineers should have understanding of Quality, be cost consciousness and have an understanding of how deliverables effects scheduling. It is an added bonus if one has knowledge of risk management In this book, we are not going to discuss any engineering calculation details. Main focus of this book is to highlight requirements of multi-discipline co-ordination and to show some examples. Major deliverables of different disciplines are mentioned in respective chapters to give project engineers an idea of what these deliverables look like and how are they inter-related.

Systems Design and Engineering
Author: G. Maarten Bonnema
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 149875127X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 131
Book Description
Systems Engineering is gaining importance in the high-tech industry with systems like digital single-lens reflex cameras, medical imaging scanners, and industrial production systems. Such systems require new methods that can handle uncertainty in the early phases of development, that systems engineering can provide. This book offers a toolbox approach by presenting the tools and illustrating their application with examples. This results in an emphasis on the design of systems, more than on analysis and classical systems engineering. The book is useful for those who need an introduction to system design and engineering, and those who work with system engineers, designers and architects.

Handbook for Process Plant Project Engineers
Author: Peter Watermeyer
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 9781860583704
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 340
Book Description
This excellent book systematically identifies the issues surrounding the effective linking of project management techniques and engineering applications. It is not a technical manual, nor is it procedure-led. Instead, it encourages creative learning of project engineering methodology that can be applied and modified in different situations. In short, it offers a distillation of practical ‘on-the job’ experience to help project engineers perform more effectively. While this book specifically addresses process plants, the principles are applicable to other types of engineering project where multidisciplinary engineering skills are required, such as power plant and general factory construction. It focuses on the technical aspects, which typically influence the configuration of the plant as a whole, on the interface between the various disciplines involved, and the way in which work is done – the issues central to the co-ordination of the overall engineering effort. It develops an awareness of relationships with other parties – clients, suppliers, package contractors, and construction managers – and of how the structure and management of these relationships impact directly on the performance of the project engineer. Readers will welcome the author’s straightforward approach in tackling sensitive issues head on. COMPLETE CONTENTS Introduction A process plant A project and its management A brief overview The engineering work and its management The project’s industrial environment The commercial environment The contracting environment The economic environment Studies and proposals Plant layout and modelling Value engineering and plant optimization Hazards, loss, and safety Specification, selection and purchase Fluid transport Bulk solids transport Slurries and two-phase transport Hydraulic design and plant drainage Observations on multidiscipline engineering Detail design and drafting The organization of work Construction Construction contracts Commissioning Communication Change and chaos Fast-track projects Advanced information management Project strategy development Key issues summary
